I definitely agree with your post. I’m not trans so I can’t speak too much, and I don’t want to ever invalidate the trans fans who identify with nott because of what she said. But it seemed to me that Sam was playing the identity issues for sure but sort of ... stopped before he said nott was trans? It felt intentional that he didn’t go that far.

Oh yeah totally! He didn’t push it to that level. There just have been a lot of posts by others on the issue, as is per usual ‘round here. 

Honestly I trust Sam not to push things in that direction, he saw me through with Tary so I trust him in this.

I definitely agree with you on Michael Stuhlbarg’s character. He was my favorite in the whole movie and he deserved a happy ending. And I also agree that I would’ve liked some better resolution for Octavia Spencer’s character. But I like to think that her finally telling her lame husband to sit the fuck down spurs her to not take his bullshit anymore. I also like to imagine that she leaves him, moves in to Eliza’s old apartment and becomes friends with Richard Jenkins character.

PERFECT! and finds a man worthy of her - maybe one of the cute guys she smokes with at work. and I think you’re right about her being done w/ her husband’s shit - Elisa’s decision motivates her to break out of the dreck and drudgery of her day-to-day life.

I honestly want to write fic with alternate endings for these two characters, and exploring more of Elisa’s life before and after all this happens. I’m gonna do it. So many things on my to-write list but I’m gonna do it

Yep I agree. The extremely hostile criticism of the movie and people who liked the movie are baffling. Yeah it’s not perfect at all, but I loved it and thought it was a damn good Star Wars movie. It’s weird cause people bashed TFA for it being too similar to ANH, but here comes a movie that takes risks and tells these stories in a darker, heavier way, and people are up in arms over it. The franchise needs to start to evolve out of movies 1-6 and now’s as good a time as any to start.

yeah see I liked TFA but as I discussed in my earlier posts, I felt I really only knew and got attached to Finn and Kylo on a deeper level after watching it - but in this film I felt everyone had really strong arcs and it deepened my appreciation of the first film as well, and rey as a protagonist

I also love the idea of grog helping tary accept and love himself. Because tary could tell grog a secret that he thinks will change grog's opinion of him maybe something his father would tell him all the time and grog would just be like "that's not who you are anymore, I love who you are now." Tary is stunned Then they'd get into a brawl at a tavern and tary probably vomits somewhere in there too. For ship names I was thinking of darringrog cause it's better than Gary lol

This ask killed me dead. Because of course Grog doesn’t value the same shit that Tary’s father did. Why would he? He doesn’t need Tary to get stronger, Grog’s strong enough for both of them. He doesn’t care that Tary’s gay or unruthless or any of that, and he probably likes him better because of that. So Grog just unknowingly affirming that he likes Tary for who he is now, and Tary just growing more comfortable being Tary and not Taryon Darrington, Adventurer Extraordinaire.

Ever since the potions shop/gag reflex incident I've been like "hmmmmm i could definitely ship tary/grog." But now I can just imagine them getting together sometime in that year (drunken hookup that just kept going till oops accidental relationship) and now they're just fighting people and fucking each other through towns. But always remembering to be home for Sunday dinner with the family.

The hookup that just keeps going, yes! Like, “this was supposed to be a one time thing for curiosity’s sake, but it was really fun? and I really like being around you?” 

And then Sunday dinners at Whitestone, I die. No one wants to ask what the deal is, they’re just all “did you guys have fun while you were away?” and just glossing over how they seem to be getting closer and Grog always sits next to Tary now, and Tary seems way more comfortable around Grog and just more confident in general.

Also their adventures are probably both completely ridiculous and fraught with peril, lmao

And imagine one day tary brings grog home to meet the family and it goes about as well as everyone can expect. But this time instead of sitting there and taking the abuse from his father, tary stands up for himself, and when his dad is like "tary!" And tary calmly tells him "only my family gets to call me that." And walks off with a smirking grog in tow. And before grog leaves the room he turns around and flips them the bird. Then they go and get in a tavern brawl LOL

Sorry for the late response, I literally just got home from a hellish shift at work.

I’m just imagining Tary’s dad trying to talk to Grog and dying of laughter. “So Grog, what is it that you do?” “Oh, I’m the Grand Poobah de Doink of All of This and That. Also I kill things. With my axe.” Like trying to be all lordly and shit but then spoiling it by farting and making a bunch of social gaffs. Tary is in turns horrified and proud because Grog truly does not care what Tary’s father thinks of him. Like, if Tary’s dad wasn’t fucking awful maybe he’d try, but because Tary’s dad is quite possibly even worse than Vex’s dad...well let’s just say multiple times throughout the trip Grog offers to Taryon to “just axe your dad’s face in a little bit, just a smidge.” 

Oh god I just had a horrible idea. Imagine Taryon meeting Zanroar and the remainder of the herd. Like, not so much a “bring him home to meet the family” but “chance encounter and oh god these people are related to you?” 

Lol, I have so many more ideas for these two now.
