Oliver and Haru were sat on the floor of the living room, in front of the frankly overwhelmingly run down and worn sofa, yet, despite the clear wear and tear, the furniture piece away had a sense of home that they all loved and couldn't bear to replace it with another, soulless, newer piece of material. But that was besides the point—
Right now, Haru and Oliver were kind of doing their own thing. Haru was occupying himself with the small, old-style early 2000s TV that laid in front of him, and Oliver—being the only one of the three brothers to still be at home was using his much needed 'me-time' to go over a very old bucket list he'd found—moreso, a list of things he'd always wondered about and aimed to solve as a kid back in his 'I'm going to be the next greatest scientist!' Era.
A lot of the items on his list were rather intriguing such as, "Can cacti survive without their leaves?" and "What happens if an ant loses track of its trail?" Both questions already answered, unfortunately. But, some of them were also quite ridiculous to put it—such as, "Is everyone who wears glasses a total book-obsessed snob?"
Wait... What?
He read that one again—Zike's old, messy handwriting.
"Of course." He muttered as he rolled his eyes, adjusting his own glasses as he continued reading, his eyes widening as a particular question caught them. Oh this was going to be fun...
"Hey... Haru? I have a question." He broke an unintentional silence, the other's ears perked up at his voice.
"Hm? Yeah? What is it?" He answered innocently, unbeknownst of what was to come.
"Do all dogs like belly rubs?" Oliver asked with far too much nonchalance for the question.
"...W-What?" His ears faltered slightly, big red and cream-gold coloured eyes blinking in surprise.
"Just—" He waved his hand in the air, as if it were the most common question known to man. "Generally speaking, you know? I'm curious."
"Why— How would I know?" Haru emphasised suspiciously, slightly curling in on himself, eyes narrowed as they stared at the other who simply looked back with innocent intrigue—
Or as innocent as he could be, anyway.
"Well... Maybe because you're..." He paused, eyeing him up and down as if a doctor inspecting their patient. "Part dog, and all."
"Well— Y-Yeah—” He stammered, genuinely unable to tell if the latter knew how the question affected him or not. Though, the faint blush on his cheeks was a rather tell-tale sign. “But that's a pretty big generalisation!"
"So they... Don't?" He replied flatly.
"I— I never said tha-" He barely had the chance to retort.
"So you do?" Oliver interrupted.
"Wuh— W-Why is it suddenly a me thing!?" His face flushed, brighter than ever as he stared at him now with wide eyes.
"You're the one who said it was a generalisation." Oliver grinned, all innocence almost faltering at his reaction… Almost.
"But that doesn't mean that I do!" Haru tried to bite back.
"So you don't?" He tilted his head like a curious cat who'd just found itself a new toy.
"I— no— what— mm... maybe I just— Aaaagh!" He stammered, eyes darting all over the room, avoiding Oliver’s gaze like the plague. Then, in dismay, let out a quiet, flustered scream which only made Oliver chuckle, to which he quickly covered up by clearing his throat—must be professional after all. "Why is this a topiiiic!?" He whined as he hid his face in his hands.
"I'm just trying to get all the facts for my analysis, and frankly you haven't given me a very concrete answer." He tapped at the old, oxidised piece of paper—the question, more specifically—as if it were the most important thing of the moment. As if it weren't just an excuse to suddenly mess with the poor boy, but he didn't know that.
"That's well— T-That's because it's just— That's not something you can just openly admi—” He caught himself. “Answer, okay?" Haru professed in a rapid-fire flustered fit, fiddling with his fingers shyly, with a defiant huff as if not wanting Oliver to catch on to what he was trying to convey. Oliver found it utterly precious.
"So... Would you rather I try to gain my answer some other way instead?" He offered, trying to compromise with him without giving up his full intentions.
"Well— I guess that could work... Possibly..." Haru answered apprehensively, eyes twinkling as he looked at Oliver with timid eyes. "But how?"
"Hm…” He hummed softly. Not wanting to string the poor thing on for too long. “Possibly something like this." Without hesitation, Oliver's hands latched onto the latter's waist, swiftly pinning him down to the ground with ease.
"WAUGH—!” He shrieked from the sudden motion, air gently knocking out of him as he stared up at the other who didn't even bother to hide his small smile anymore. “O-Oliver—!? What are you doing!?"
"Testing my hypothesis. Hypothesis in question—” He emphasised, grinning as he wiggled his fingers above him. “Does Haru like belly rubs?"
"That's a hohohorible hypothesis!!" The pup kemonomimi already squeaked and giggled with anticipation yet didn't make any effort to shield the area in question.
He giggled nervously while watching Oliver, gently roll up his shirt, the black-pink haired gent watched Haru closely, looking for any sign of discomfort, yet the smaller boy only gave him a sweet, wobbly, expectant smile.
He pressed on with his act.
"There's no such thing as a 'horrible hypothesis', my friend. Only ones that haven't been given the proper TLC to make it to the big leagues." He poked his tummy, cooing internally at the way the latter jolted. "And I for one intend to make it quite far with this one. Shall we begin?"
"Mmmhmhmh...!" Haru could barely think. The scientific facade kept his mind on a thin tightrope teetering between whether or not Oliver actually wanted to test this 'for science'—he groaned softly, slamming his eyes shut as he shyly covered his face with his hands.
"Ohohokayyy..." He finally whined out after what seemed like forever, Oliver, who had waited ever so patiently for the poor thing to gather his thoughts in one place merely smiled, placing his whole hand against the small of his tummy, barely containing his own chuckle with the way said tummy jolted at the sensation.
"Very well then, let's start slow and see how you react first." His hand then lightly began gliding across the soft, pale skin, touch light enough to elicit small bubbly titters and gasps from the one who truly made no real effort to get away.
"Subject seems to respond positively to the stimuli— It is quite adorable actually." He observed in an almost clinical voice, adding a playful lilt to that last sector which only served to make Haru blush more and groan softly into his hands.
"Now, let's try phase 2—" Oliver's fingers then lightly began flexing in slow rhythm against his torso, sliding over his sides, tummy, ribs and hips with gentle, feather-like scratches.
Now Haru was giggling, the sound as sweet as he was. His tail slowly began to wave beside him, the black-furry appendage lightly thwarted at the ground with glee. "Thahat isn't ruhuhubbing you liahahar!!"
"Subject seems to especially like this form of stimuli." He gestured to the way Haru was now playfully batting at his hands and twisting his hips, completely ignoring his qualm about his 'methods'.
"Ohoholiverrr—!" He giggle-whined preciously.
"Yes, is something the matter?" Oliver batted his eyelashes cheekily.
"Yohou're being mehean!" He verbalized through giggles with half-truth.
"Am I? Oh, I thought you were enjoying this.” He implied with such nonchalant observation that it made Haru sputter. “Would you like me to change tactics?"
"Yehehesss!" Haru droned.
"Well... Since you insist." Oliver hummed innocently before his fingers shaped themself into a claw, placing itself right over his bellybutton and then—
Scritchscritchscritchscritch
Haru absolutely shrieked once he began vibrating his digits into his flesh as if there was no tomorrow, the rapid movements sending unfathomably tingly sensations all up his torso and spine.
"WAHAHAHA— WAHAHAIT— NOHOHOT THAHAHAT—! OHOHOLEHEHE—!!" He squealed and thrashed all he could—arms flailing wildly, head shaking enthusiastically, legs kicking vigorously—the poor thing could barely even get a word out before it was replaced with frantic hysterics and peals of laughter.
Oliver giggled softly along with him before letting up a bit, his fingers now lightly skittering up and down his tummy, his loud belly laughter quietening down to rampant giggles after a while.
"Sohorry…” Oliver allowed a giggle of his own to slip in his amusement. “Was that not what you had meant?" He added almost tauntingly, tilting his head as if nothing happened.
"Mehean— Cruehel— Ehehevil even—!" Haru belted as he peered through his fingers, shooting the latter a glare which came off more like a puppy who’d just been denied treats more than anything threatening.
"And yet, you still haven't asked me to stop once." Oliver observed with an amused hum as his fingers continued their light attack on the sides of his tummy.
Haru could only babble what Oliver assumed was an empty protest as he grabbed a nearby cushion, hugging it against his face and using it to shield his flushed face and muffle his sweet squeals.
"But I think it's safe to say, you didn't all too mind that fact either." Oliver gave a small smirk that didn't quite reach his eyes as he glanced at the latter's tail which was now thumping uncontrollably against the floor.
"Shuhut up—!" He whined once more.
"Now, that's not a very nice thing to say to someone who you agreed to help with their research." He emphasised with another swift claw attack to his tummy earning another round of frantic babbles this time mixed in with a regretful—
"NOHOHOO— I'M SORRY! IHIHI'M SOHOHORRYY!!" To which Oliver's fingers slowed once more, Haru basically melting into the floor with a giddy whine of defeat as he just allowed himself to laugh into the cushion.
"Speaking of... I have to say this is a rather successful experiment. You seem to love this."
"Dohohon't say it lihihike thahaaaat—!" He wailed, not denying the claim, Oliver was sure he could see the cushion blushing at this point with how red he was.
"Oh, sorry, would you prefer I say it like this—Subject seems to be even more positively responsive to stimuli than could've previously been hoped for."
"Ohohoho my gahawd!” Haru practically mewled. “You're suhuhuch a doohohofus!"
"Ah, but this 'doofus' is simply acquiring useful knowledge.” He chuckled, not even taking offense to the soft jab. “Wait till Zike and Pi hear about this." Haru’s eyes widened behind the soft furniture piece.
"Wahahait— Wha—AHAHAA—!!" Before he could even question Oliver hung his head down, lips pressing against the skin and before Haru could even process that sensation Oliver blew a giant raspberry right where Haru's tummy met his hips causing him to shriek.
"Hush." Oliver purred amusedly. "Further research is required."
"OHOHOLIVER YOHOHOU JEHERK!!"
The next few hours were filled with much more happy laughter and “necessary research”.
Protest as he might, he couldn't deny, maybe this wasn't such a horrible hypothesis after all.
