No Longer Man’s : Othrys

At around 3000 feet tall, Othrys was the first and largest of the Vastators encountered by humanity. Emerging from the Pacific ocean in 1962, Othrys baffled the world in both terror and awe. It crawled upon the shores of Asia, seeking energy to feed upon (from Thermal to nuclear) and nothing could stand in it's way. 

It dragged itself upon ten molar like feet under it's mass, and hunted for resources with it's six tendrils, acting like heads, tasting the atmosphere for power. It's shell had been built up by numerous minerals over millennia, making it virtually indestructible. The only openings were it's cooling vents and waste vents and the "mouth" of the shell that split open to cool it's core when feeding. Much like it's successors, Othrys produced an invisible cloud of microbes around it's body which selectively leeched nutrients and energy from any source available. This made approach difficult, as those that dared would be devoured cell by cell. After many years of destruction, Othrys met it's end in 1969 on Hawaii, impaled and ruptured by the experimental orbital weapon, the Ballistic Bomber. Unfortunately the end was actually the beginning, as the creature's extreme biology held so much power, the body exploded with enough power to triumph over any atom bomb. The explosion disintegrated much of Hawaii and irradiated the waters surrounding it, not to mention nearly all just out of range of the blast were blinded by the light or made deaf by the boom. But it did more than that, it awoke other creatures of it's like, the Vastators, and started the new era of monsters.
