So... I saw what happened to Otto Warmbrier and I have thoughts.
First: North Korea is one of the world's hardest dictatorships, one with an anti-USA discourse at that, I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there. Second: What happened to him shouldn't have happened, but again: North Korea is a dictatorship, one where their leader is worshiped like a God, this is what happens in dictatorships. I live in one I know the drill. Third: And this is what could get me a lot of shit, but someone has to say it. WHITE AMERICANS NEED TO STOP TRAVELING ABOARD THINKING THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THE FUCK THEY WANT AND NOT FACE CONSEQUENCES BECAUSE THEY HAVE AN AMERICAN PASSPORT. This is something I have seen happen time and time again; American travels to foreign country, American thinks they can do whatever the fuck they want, American is Shooketh™ when they find out they have to face consequences for their actions, American seeks help of government. Remember Ryan Lochte and his Swimmer Buddies™ last year during the Rio Olympics? How they thought they were gonna make up some dumb (not realistic) story about being mugged and get away with thrashing that gas station? Well, this is that case taken to the extreme. This is what happens when you go to a country where they literally don't give a fuck about their own people, so why would you think they'd give a fuck about you and your precious USA passport?? What happened to Otto Warmbrier shouldn't have happened, but it did and it did because he thought he could get away with thrashing North Korea's government property. Of course, the punishment was way out of proportion with what he did in any other country he would have been fined or given community service or something like that, but he went to North Korea. You don't play with those people. Fourth: The people asking Trump to "Bomb NK because they killed and American" are part of the problem too. Imagine if Mexico bombed the USA every time an American kills a Mexican because said Mexican dared to cross the border looking for a better life? If y'all educated your children to know that "No, being American is not a magical get out of jail card when you go to another country" this shit wouldn't have happened. But y'all don't do it. Check yourselves. Fifth: Don't go to fucking North Korea.
