What did you mean by "PR"?
I meant that everything that shows up on actor’s social media is part of OUAT PR, it’s still only what they want us to know about the show.

Speaking vaguely about the finale, what are some of the characters that you're most happy with their journey and arc from the beginning of Season 1 to the end of Season 6 once we get to the end of the finale?
Kitsis: Absolutely Emma.
What do you think she learned the most?
Kitsis: I think she learned to trust other people, and I think that's the hardest thing to do, is when you are used to being on your own, it's very hard to let someone in and have it be real. It's very easy to be surfacey and "like" their stuff on Facebook; it's hard to actually be the person they call, and I think that Emma has gone from somebody that slept in her car and denied she had a kid to someone who actually has found a real life, and to me, that's kind of like -- that says the show, right there.
Horowitz: I agree, and I would say adding to that also Regina, who has gone through so much from where she started in the pilot to where she is now. I'd say in the season finale, there are real echoes to the pilot and where she began and where her and Emma began and where they are now. It's been a tumultuous journey for both of them as they've grown and changed over the years. For us -- and hopefully you and the fans will agree -- we think it's a satisfying place they find themselves.

How so though? Jmo wrapped filming in one day much like the other cast that came back for the finale. That's really barely anything. Why would she post that for PR? You think she'll still stick around and film in secret? But then people there would know right. Sorry just trying to make sense of it. That and Adam's posting of the jacket and bug. Why do that and stir us up for nothing.
What I meant to say was “Don’t draw too many conclusions from it either way?” People’s emotions are running high and I resent these people have that kind of power.
Uhm, guys
“Our Decay” — Emma, Snow, David, Regina, Robin, Henry and Hook continue to search for a way to free everyone from the Underworld. At the mercy of Hades, Gold creates a portal to Storybrooke, which transports Belle, Zelena and Baby Hood to the Underworld. While Zelena and Regina get into a sibling squabble, Belle is reunited with Rumple only to learn some tremendously shocking news that will change her life forever. Meanwhile, Snow and David hopelessly attempt to send a message from the Underworld to their son, Neal. In flashbacks, Hades learns about Zelena’s very special spell and pays her a visit in Oz with the intention of striking an alliance, but finds himself with more than just a partner in crime, on “Once Upon a Time,” SUNDAY, APRIL 3 (8:00–9:00 p.m. EDT) on the ABC Television Network. “Once Upon a Time” stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White/Mary Margaret, Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, Lana Parrilla as the Evil Queen/Regina, Josh Dallas as Prince Charming/David, Emilie de Ravin as Belle, Colin O’Donoghue as Hook, Jared S. Gilmore as Henry Mills, Sean Maguire as Robin Hood, Rebecca Mader as the Wicked Witch/Zelena and Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold. Guest stars include Keegan Connor Tracy as Blue Fairy, Emma Caulfield as Blind Witch, Teri Reeves as Dorothy, and Greg Germann as Hades.
I was right about RUmbelle being reunited in 16 yey-yey. Why did they release this though?

Hook died in reality because when Emma stabbed him with the Excalibur we saw his dead body being taken away by paramedics. This is in contrast to when Rumple stabbed himself/Pan with the dagger and they just magically disappeared. The former felt "too real". Also the heart sharing is supposed to be done with the actual body (as Snow did with Charming) so why go through the trouble of going to the underworld? It only makes sense if the point is to get closure but CS is being led on? Is that fair?
Agreed, Anon. It’s the reality shining through, that was a real death, not a magical one. So yes, it was just the reason to get them to the Underworld. Emma has survivor’s guilt, but also, her body is still in the time where it’s not unlikely it may reject his liver. She isn’t out of the woods yet so in that sense, she is medically still tied to him. Will their chemistry really match? Who would’ve thought I’d find myself rooting for them and their chemistry?
Are they being led on... I don’t think the story is really leading anyone on, but the PR is... well, they’re playing with everyone, really. Wouldn’t it be great if they would actually put out PR that encourages people to look at the metaphors? Post old fairy tales and cool interviews about fairy tales. Talk about issues that are hidden in the metaphors, like addiction and abuse. They could be helping people to focus on the stories instead of on the ships. It would be more costly, but it could potentially engage people in a positive way. They could highlight the charities the cast chooses to support and foster conversation. Really engage fans and tap into their passion instead of what they’re doing now.
But focusing on ships is cheap and gives easy clicks. So yes, people are being led on and regardless of what happens on the show and what couples get together, this show could really have explored a better way of doing PR.
PR with integrity. Just like companies are seeing the importance of making durable products or sustainability, fair trade or organic produce. Rising above consumption only PR should really have been a thing for this show. Recognize that television and story help to shape and impact our world and take on that responsibility. Try to create a loyal audience instead of focusing on getting people to just look at the next episode. And have positive interactions with them. If they just tried it, they may actually discover they’ll start to stand out again in a sea of click-bait.
not related to the meta, but have you seen all the c$ promotion on the UK & Ireland Netfilx Twitter? They even posted something saying 'once upon a captain $wan'. 🙄🙄🙄
Well, we know from spoilers Colin is going to be in nearly every episode next season and they are going to the Underworld to save him. That’s not news, that where the story ended before hiatus. Don’t forget emotions with the General Audience don’t run quite as high as in the fandom... nor does the scrutiny. So they’re just promoting the story where it left off... which is logical?
Plus, the thing with PR is, especially for things like Netflix... I assume they have a few people hired for their multimedia accounts and these people probably have portfolios for many shows. I’m sure they’ll watch some of the shows in their portfolios and it’s their job to know what’s going on, but if you think about it, it’s not exactly humanely possible to know it all. So they read press releases, do research online, see what will give them clicks, maybe insert their own preferences.
PR can be very disconnected from the actual product. It doesn’t have to be, but it can be, it’s different people working there and you don’t know what information they get to go on. If I wasn’t given much and I’d go with current story outlines and fandom without watching the show, seems like a logical choice to me. Doesn’t tell you how the story will unfold, though.
Plus, how current is Netflix UK & Ireland? If they have 5A up and that’s what they’re promoting... could they be more accurate?
I’d say most of us have major trust issues when it comes to Jane Espenson, and mine just spiked when I read one of her Twitter conversations this morning. Here it is below:
Why would Adam tease with rainbows and dolphins for a couple nobody cares about? A fandom that doesn't exist? If he's using all this gay subtext to tease something about the show, it has to be Swan Queen in my opinion...
I’m so glad he’s teasing Swan Queen, imagine what kind of pictures he’d have to take to subtly tease the other relationships. It’s a scary thought.
He knows who’s going to see it, he knows how it’s going to be interpreted, he’s gotten feedback that it is indeed interpreted as such and he keeps posting them. Plausibly deniable intentions. So yes, it’s teasing Swan Queen, there’s always something, otherwise people would have taken the negative messages more seriously. It’s how they keep us wondering, apart from the obvious subtext on the show.
