He wishes his dad would be less dismissive of his reasoning. That he could understand, or maybe even see for himself such a turn of events. It truly could not be prevented. Had he not done what did, he'd of lost a friend- and much more than his eye. But that didn't really matter- and Jianyu knows that. Atticus has told him on more than one occasion: ' look out for yourself, because no one else will out there. ' And he listened, most of the time. He's not ignorant, he isn't foolish. He knows how hard this work is, knows the weight that comes with his name. A combination that has often times threatened to overwhelm him entirely. It's spite that keeps him going as if nothing's wrong.
Maybe he misunderstands his father. Maybe.
" Me 'n a few other people were on a job. " a simple answer. ( the one who picked it up didn't get all the information. they weren't sure what to expect. people got hurt- but no one died ) No... it's stupid to try and come up with excuses, so he wont. He leaves it vague, because he knows how his father thinks.
Mention of his mother has his expression softening. There's a tinge of worry there, deep in his chest- and anxiety curling tight around his gut. She wont like it. She'll like it even less than Atticus does. He's alive isn't he? Wuya has always been protective of her children. To see him hurt will break her heart- to know he might of died had things played out differently... there will be consequences. Probably for both of them now that he thinks about it. Jianyu had always wanted to do what his dad did- and even if he made it hard, Atticus was supportive, in his own way.
Jianyu looks... uncomfortable for a moment. Gaze downcast, head turned away slightly. He looks unkempt, disheveled, scruffy. " Can't ya come with me... " he sounds very small, asking for him to come confront her with him. She's probably in the shop, or else she might of seen him before Atticus did. " I mean, y'know, just be there... ya always make mama feel better. " as if him being there will cushion the blow, seeing her son maimed like this...
