Thoughts on dok's own personal health?
The dude’s a mess, he’s horrible.
Born with Syndactyly on both hands, his ring and pinky fingers are fused. You can spot his hands in the manga and OVA; his gloves are four-fingered.
Has Dermatophagia. He compulsively bites his hands and has scars and calluses on his fingers from repeatedly hurting himself over the decades. He can’t help himself, and the Major loves to make fun of him for the impulse, much to Dok's embarrassment.
He suffers from anxiety. Complete worrywart, easily wound-up, irritable. Has a hard time controlling feeling of intense worry and stress, hence all the compulsive biting.
The dude definitely suffers from delusions of grandeur, given his breakdown and rant to Walter at the end. He basically thinks he can out-science the devil, but fails and literally gets crushed by his own ambition. He def has a god-complex. Dok thinks his horrible works have waaaaay more value to the whole of humanity (like srly dude?) than they do, but then also clearly endlessly worries about the performance of his creations to the point of drawing blood biting himself from the tension. Maybe he has a form of bipolar disorder? Manic episodes of goal-directed mad science bs coupled with inflated self-esteem followed by feelings of worthlessness, failure, paranoia, and worry. (But he is a terrible doctor and person, so I wouldn't feel bad for him.)
Because of all this, Dok is scarily thin. Lack of appetite and intense working sessions make him forget to eat. While he often cooks for the Major, he doesn't usually eat with him, 1. Because the Major is his superior and eats alone unless explicitly requests company, 2. Dok has science to do.
Terrible eyesight. Can’t see shit up close, so that’s why he has the intense glasses with all the loupes.
The man doesn’t seem to age, but also doesn’t appear to be a vampire in anyway like his creations. I like to imagine that he’s started some cyborg improvements on himself like the Major, but not as extensively since operating on yourself is super hard. When Walter slices’em up, his limbs don’t look robotic inside. So, idk. Dok is a totally an Omnidisciplinary Scientist, so you can kinda endlessly speculate what weird science he did on himself. I think both him and Major have yellow iris in the OVA, which seem to indicate that they are ‘other’ and not completely human (they are self-made monsters, after all). Personally, I like the ‘he’s secretly a cyborg’ angle.
