The eternal struggle
Ultra Magnus never cooperates. You’d think he would, but no. He’s a jerk.

Ultra Magnus’s relationship with Prowl is a bit of a complicated one. In his early days, as Minimus Ambus, before he’d been reformatted by the Matrix of Leadership and changed his name, he’d had something of a crush on Prowl - something he never had the opportunity to fully act on before he was captured and tortured.
Now, as the far sterner Ultra Magnus, he maintains a professional respect for Prowl, even if he doesn’t always agree with the other’s decisions.
On his lonelier nights, Ultra Magnus dreams of the life that could have been. His torturers never knew of the crush on Prowl, or they’d likely have ‘reprogrammed’ that, too.
New headcanon:
If Ultra Magnus does not feel an injury will hinder his ability to fight he will not “trouble the medics with such trivialities” and attempt to self-care whatever minor injury he thinks he has. He’s a rather stubborn mech and is generally hiding at least one injury at any given time.
In other words, there are injuries he insists are “just paint scratches. they don’t even hurt.” they did, in fact, hurt, but not enough that he can’t ignore them.
