Slowly but surely, Lillie has been slowing down and wandering off on walks. Then she couldn’t keep up at all. Then she went blind a month or so ago. Walks were out of the question but we still wanted to include her. We kept meaning to look into a solution, but it’s been so chaotic we kept forgetting. Until our neighbor @cozylife1 asked where Lillie was and said she was surprised we hadn’t bought her a stroller by now 😆 I’m so glad she reminded us! Husband was on the case and quickly found something that would work for her during walks and for him while doing yard chores. It’s perfect! I thought we’d have to train her to sit in the wagon. I mean, most old and blind dogs won’t just settle in for a shaky ride. I had fresh summer plums to use up so plum crumble it is! @marthastewart recipe of course. It had a cookie dough type base in the bottom of the pan made with cinnamon - you par bake it. Then fresh plums on top, pour over cream and eggs and almond extract, and lastly a butter/sugar/flour mix. BBQ Chicken Ranch Pasta Salad recipe via @halfbakedharvest of course! She has the best recipes. With this heat we’ve been having we needed something filling yet light - this is a perfect meal in a bowl! The dressing is home made ranch: Greek yogurt, Mayo, buttermilk, fresh chives, parsley, dill, garlic and onion powder. Next I marinated @gardein chicken in BBQ sauce and browned it in a pan. Cooked some pasta. Stuffed roasted summer squash recipe via @evakosmasflores These lovely zucchini and summer squash are stuffed with a mixture of sautéed onion 🧅 garlic 🧄 jalapeño, and @morningstarfarms burger crumbles in place of ground turkey, garden tomatoes 🍅 rice 🍚 smoked paprika, garlic powder, lots of fresh garden basil and dill, and feta. It’s roasted in broth and the flavor is oh so good! Taken days ago when the heatwave started back up but the skies were still blue. I think Murphy truly had the most fun - he was so many layers deep in swim/squirm in sand/swim/squirm in sand - he slept well that night! This whole evening was wild, honestly. I read that it’s good to take blind dogs to a large, open area so they can still feel safe to run and play. So we took Lillie to the park. It’s true! It works! She trotted around a little bit like she used to and seemed to feel freer! Earlier this summer, Lillie started having a major eye issue that the vet can’t figure out. Her eye is filled with blood. She’s not suffering. But she’s now blind. (The other eye has a cataract.) I’ve seen her get lost in table/chair legs. Constantly run into things. So we are being extra good to the old girl, because she deserves the best.
