Merlin being somewhat over-protective of Arthur. 

Sure she can defend herself. But who says that Magical Bishonen Britain won’t show up to provide assistance?

And then Arthur’s love life.

She brings in Guinevere.

“Arthur. Can you leave the room so I can talk with your wife-to-be?” As he casually pulls a sword out from under a desk.

Him having seen Fate/Zero and all the routes of Fate/SN and especially MIFFED with Shirou and Saber during the Fate route for obvious reasons. Him just harassing Shirou in very, very tiny ways and threatening him.

“You dare break my little baby dragon’s heart I’m going to beat you with the flat of Excalibur. Also if you want to try and woo her you’re going to have to work through hell and back and even then I MIGHT approve of you.”

Merlin just casually interfering with ANY of Arthur’s would be lovers. “Only those who are determined can be with you.” As he says in the form a stag with curtains stuck in his horns.

Grandmaster, why is your Nasu-verse Avatar here claimed to be Lawful by chance, alignment-wise? Is it something you volunteer to engage at for the time being when you had a talk with Nasu Kinoko himself?

This is where I, the mun, shall step in. And I’ll toss this under a read more.

First and foremost, I’m not an expert when it comes to the Aruthian myths nor Type-Moon’s interpretation of Merlin. So onto my own spiel.

With the Fate/Universe you would imagine that since Merlin is such a lecherous fool that he’d fall under chaotic good. Certainly a man with such an odd behavior can’t be lawful, right?

Well with the Fate/Universe and Garden of Avalon goes beyond and really pushes at Merlin’s inhuman nature. He thinks in such a way that its very alien to an human’s own thinking. He follows his own ‘paths’ when it comes to thinking, everything falls into a certain line and does not deviate from it (most of the time.) Thus he follows his own ‘law’.

In addition to that you also factor in what I’ve done with Merlin and made him slightly canon divergent. In the myths he served as Arthur’s adviser, often chastising the young king and helping them bloom into the rightful king they were to become. This would be very ‘lawful’. Someone who would enjoy freedom wouldn’t care about grooming a man into a king?

As for the good part one could debate if Merlin was truly ‘good’. He would willingly use men and women and sacrifice them to fulfill a purpose. You would imagine that sacrifices would be kinda-morally grey. Well... He did this for the good of Britain. Arthur had to often fight other nobles in order to become a king and that would result in good men and woman dying. Yet it was all for the good of Britain. To put the perfect king in place to rule it. Not a tyrant. Not a conqueror. 

Even Grand Order shows that Merlin is willing to even bring himself out to fight for humanity, to ensure their survival. He allowed himself to be summoned by Gilgamesh and when the ‘servant’ Merlin died, he used a loop hole to leave Avalon to come and personally fight Tiamat. He was willing to risk himself in order to ensure humanities survival.

Even if Merlin is not a good person. Even if he’s an asshole who will willingly gloat that he’s the best caster and that everyone else is jealous of him. Even if he causes trouble for Gudao and Gudako for his own amusement. 

He’s still willing to do what is best for humanity to help them survive and thrive.

Any muses you’d like to RP? Admittedly I’m thinking about the Avatar from Fire Emblem Awakening.

Fav blog ship? Merlin and Vivian. It’s 99.9% him just being a thirsty git over her and taking every chance he could get to try and make her get flustered.

Why did you decide on your current muse? Because I really liked Merlin’s appearance. And then I read Garden of Avalon and really came to like him! And then F/GO and him being a damn NEET has just made everything perfect.

Do you like how you write your character? Yes. I pull things from actual Fate canon as well as the various myths of Merlin to make him more...I guess human? Sure he may have an alien perspective on things but he’s still human. Making him having cared for just a few people (the three brothers whose names we don’t learn, his wife, Arthur and Fou) just helps tweak him a bit more.

What inspired you to start roleplaying? Dungeons and Dragons believe it or not. My parents had gotten me into it and I found a group in high school that played it. So it kinda spiraled out from there.

Opinion on ships? Ehh.. To be honest I was a bit hesitant on shipping from a previous fandom but thanks to everyone in the Fate/Fandom I’ve come to open up with the whole shipping thing. And I am ship trash. Literally. Ask people who rp with me. I am trash.

Any annoyances you have regarding rping? People who try to FORCE a ship. Especially ones that will not work because of muse chemistry. Also another thing, and this is more aimed at myself, but dry spells. I want to write my characters but it’s like “fUCK.”

Merlin has known grief only two times. The most notable moment of grief is when Arthur fell in battle. He came to care for her, originally having thought of her as nothing more than a tool to secure Britain’s future. But he felt guilt and remorse about it and grieved for her when she finally passed on.

But that is the second time.

The first time was years before Arthur was born and before he met Uther. It was how he was able to fully tap into his vision of Clairvoyance. He took part in the Battle of Arfderydd, one of the Three Futile Battles. He had advised Peredur of the Venedotians and had befriended Peredur’s three brothers, bonding with them a if they were family. 

But during the battle the three brothers were slain. He was the one who found their bodies and seeing them slain drove him into grief. A grief that spiraled him into madness and drove him into the woods. It was there that his clairvoyance truly came into their true power, allowing his to see the future. Of course at that point he was nothing more than the wild mad man of the forest.
