//Something I’ve been thinking about lately in regards to the Zelda series is the mechanics of the Master Sword, and how Skyward Sword changed its origin and what significance that has to the blade.
As the Goddess Sword, the blade held by Hylia, it was basically an anti-demon weapon. Nothing’s better for killing inhuman evils than that!
...Except not all evils are inhuman, or even demon, for that matter. If the blade had stayed the way it originally was, it would’ve done precisely jack and shit against Ganondorf come Ocarina of Time.
When the first Link reforged it into the Master Sword through the flames of Din, Farore and Nayru, it became not a blade to slay demons, but a blade that pierces evil, period. It reacts on the spiritual level, beyond the physical. It was essentially the only upgrade you could give an ultimate weapon like that to better suit its intended purpose.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a little imp heckling travelers or a mountain-sized monstrosity, if you’re of evil intent and the Master Sword is swung at you, you are gonna feel it, and it’s gonna hurt like a mother. And I’m honestly really glad that the Master Sword was given an origin like that, because before it was so loosely defined that I didn’t think much of it.
