Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
-Litany of Fear from Dune by Frank Herbert
If the above passage is too hard for your primitive brain to digest, here's a short but sweet one:
"Don't listen to the pussy side of you when you make a decision. People gravitate towards being a pussy. Remove the pussy, son"
-@shitmydadsays from twitter
Ever wonder, what would be a good fix for your writer's block, to remove your approach anxiety and ask that girl you like to go out and to finally have some peace of mind and destroy your self-doubt? Far too many have said that you should just face your fear and simply do it, so I'll just provide my perspective on the subject.
If your an artist having difficulty finding that creative spark.. allow yourself to create bullshit.. make the most grotesque nauseating piece of thrash you can possibly come up with into reality. Forget about grammar and spelling, notes and chords, structures and themes just say fuck you to the established rules. Stop squeezing yourself in a box when your obviously meant to reach out and grow in your own unique way.
If your some socially awkward loser looking for some company or just plain out succeed in any endeavor that you may come up against, allow yourself to be rejected.. allow yourself to face failure.. and try again, persistence is key.
We all have that fear, that constraint, that pussy-wussy voice within that tells us that we shouldn't do this or that, this isn't the right way, this will bring shame to you and your family for future generations.. this isn't you, this isn't what you usually do, you can do better than this... Acknowledge the existence of that voice within your mind and tell it to shut the fuck up, I'll talk to you when I'm done.. We all have this, it's something that we develop as we grow up in order to better fit society, that inner-critic that show us the way to conformity, leading us to become boring single-minded wallflowers when we are fully capable of standing out. We all have garbage and emotional baggage waiting to be released. Holding it back is like holding your own shit from exiting through your anus. They have to come out sometime whether we like it or not, or we'll die from the toxins of our own waste.
We all have this perfect image of ourselves we carry in our heads. We think that we project this image to others effectively, when we really don't. We call this our ego. Every person we meet in our lives has their own impression of us because we don't share the same experiences and views. So if you meet a hundred people, you will have a hundred different impressions of your persona based on their own perspective, and you will have your own impression about them as well.
Don't be afraid to show that ugly side of you, don't be afraid to disappoint others and most especially yourself. Don't judge yourself too hard.Don't be overcritical.
Stop being so perfect, stop being so damn respectable..
Repeat after me and say this to yourself:
I must not be overcritical.
Being overcritical is the mind killer.
Being overcritical is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my overcritical self.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
When it has gone past I will turn my inner eye to see its path.
Where my overcritical self has gone there will be nothing.
Only my TRUE SELF will remain...
