Mobcraft Chronicles
Chapter 1: The Game
In a dungeon well-lit by a lava pool, a dusty skeleton lies inanimate on a wall. His name was Jon.
Five meters away from Jon, a rotting zombie cups his left ear- or only ear- to another wall, listening. He calls himself "Bih" because that is all he could remember of his name, since certain parts of his brain have long since withered away.
As Bih was listening to the wall, he heard a cow's moo from the outside.
"Jon!" called an excited Bih. Jon woke up surprised and slightly annoyed.
"What is it, Bih?" grumbled Jon.
"I hear food!"
"What do you mean?"
"I hear a cow!"
"C'mon, Bih! We've got plenty of steak in here!" Jon yelled, but since Bih's only ear was now again pressed against the wall, he didn't hear him.
Bih then, without any other thoughts but food and his natural pathway-finding AI, turned around and started speed-walked towards the dungeon exit.
"Where are you going?" asked Jon worriedly.
"Out, comrade! Out to find a beefs- I mean beef!" Bih replied.
"Wha- Aren't you going to bring any weapons?"
"A smart man will never come at towards the trench!"
"What about dumb men? Or archers? They can still shoot you no matter where you are!"
"You a paranoids. I'll be find- er, uh, fine! Yeah, I think that's it!"
Jon sighed. "I'm coming with you," he said. "I may not need food, but I do need you to stay alive."
Jon rose and opened the dungeon chest to grab his bow and sword. The two roommates walked out of their home and stopped at the four meter wide trench and stared at the drop below. There, at the bottom of the trench (which was two meters deep) stood an old, but plump cow, which made Bih's mouth water. Meanwhile, a young player with the name tag "OwenBurger12" was walking throughout the forest near the trench, for he too heard the cow's moos, and his hunger bar was down to three and a half.
'Thank goodness, an animal!' he thought to himself. 'And once I eat, I'll have enough energy to sprint all the way back home!' As Owen finally made it to the trench, he spotted Jon and Bih on the other side.
"Uh-oh." said Owen. Bih groaned in worry. "Okay then," said Owen as he drew out his iron sword. "Let's get this over wi-" Owen was interrupted by the arrow that struck him in the knee. "Oh, are you serious!?" Just after that, Bih sprinted towards the trench, pounced on Owen, and began pounding his face with his undead fists. Owen, having had enough, punched him in the jaw, which temporarily stunned Bih. Owen then rose up from his pinned position, about to strike.
"Ready..." Jon pulled back his bow. "Aim..." Jon aimed at the tree behind Owen, where a nearby creeper was standing. "Fire!" cracked the skeleton as he released his bow. The arrow flew over the trench and had hit its designated area, which was the second block of wood of the tree (to Jon's chagrin). Owen turned around in question and made eye-to-eye contact with the creeper behind him.
"That'sss a very nice iron sssword you've got there," hissed the menacing mob. "It'sss a ssshame it hasss to go away ssso sssoon... ssssssss-"
BOOM!
Dirt and wood flew, and OwenBurger12 was nothing but smoke and scattered items.
"UGH
why does this always happen to me?!" typed an upset Owen into the server's chat. Unsurprisingly, other players teased at him for his misadventure. If Jon had skin, you would've seen a smirk on his face.
'That would've taught that noob not to come near our trench again!' thought Jon, proudly. Then, he suddenly remembered something he wished he hadn't forgot.
'Oh no! I forgot all about Bih!' worried Jon as he ran towards the edge of the trench, just to see Bih on his stomach, legs out of sight. Such force from the creeper's explosion had blown them to the bottom of the trench.
"Bih! Are you okay?"
"Trench!"
"What?"
"Ah, yeah, I'm fine! No need to fret!"
"Uh... Where are your-" wondered Jon as he slowly tilted his head downwards, just to see Bih's pair of upside-down legs jump back to their feet and quickly rejoined the rest of his body as he launched himself onto them.
"Ta-da!" said Bih triumphantly with his arms spread out.
"Oh." finished Jon whilst regaining his composure. "Well now..." said Jon as looked towards the rising sun. "I believe we should be going back now!"
"Heh, you said 'now' twice." chuckled Bih as he stacked himself out of the ditch with dirt.
"Hey... Did you get that cow, friend?" asked Jon.
"Huh? What co- OH YEAH THAT COW.... Um... Possibiny-"
"Possibly."
"Thanks, possibly! But really, to be honest,"
"Let me guess, you didn't?"
Bih turned around and peered down at the trench. The cow wasn't there. "Awwww maaaaan!" Bih groaned.
"Correct-a-mundo..." mumbled Jon disappointedly to himself.
Bih sat on the ground and held his head down. Jon then walked over to him and placed his hand on his shoulder.
"It's fine Bih," reassured Jon. "We could always hunt tomorrow night anyway-" Jon was interrupted by the crackling sound of fire.
"What's that?!" asked Bih, surprised. He then turned his head to see Jon frantically try to put out his flaming hand. Bih started to feel a bit warm as well, as his skin was starting to sizzle. "Uh-oh..." said Bih.
A split-second later, both were already in flames, running for their afterlives.
