Quetzalli had been jumpy and on edge since being bonded. A small part of her felt a little bad for Aiden, who could now experience those nerves while she got the benefit of his calmer, more reserved demeanor. But she still wasn’t happy with the idea that she was tied to the smaller, weaker creature, especially when thinking about it made her less able to focus on her job. Wasn’t the bond supposed to help? Maybe this was part of the fallout of her lingering resistance, or it just proved her beliefs that the dragons were doing all the witches a great favor. She was so caught up in her own warring thoughts, she didn’t notice the other dragon’s approach until she was right in front of her. “Oh, fuck,” the curse slipped out before she could help herself.
