double trouble

“Yook Seoeon!”
Another day, another morning and another battle. Such was the fate of a parent. Every day was a struggle to get the kids fed, dressed and out the door on time so Sungjae could arrive at work on time, earn money and keep his little family afloat. Every day felt like a whirlwind of emotions, with stress and fatigue leading the race, but the amount of love he received in return meant he wouldn’t trade his boys for anything in the world.
“Yah, Yook Seojun! Come back here you--”
Early morning shrieks and laughter filled the small apartment as always, the twins diving onto the bed in the master bedroom to burrow under the blankets. Standing in the doorway with his hands on his hips, a smile graced Sungjae’s lips as he watched the his sons’ heads pop out from under the blanket. Little rascals. “Don’t you want to see your pretty teachers and your pretty classmates today?” he asked, moving into the bedroom to sit on the edge of the bed. “Everyone will be sad if Seoeon and Seojun aren’t around today.”
“I don’t want to! I don’t want to!” Seojun giggled, starting to jump on the bed. Eventually Seoeon joined in and Sungjae sighed, checking the clock, their chant of I don’t want to, becoming background noise. They were late and at this rate, Sungjae would be late for his own job.
It takes another ten minutes to get the kids fully dressed, with their backpacks and their shoes, and then Sungjae is the one grabbing an apple to eat for breakfast, his bag and a light jacket before ushering the kids out the door. The next battle is to strap them into their seats and then to entertain them in the car, but somehow they manage to get to preschool and by the time he gets his kids past the main doors, Sungjae already feels like calling in sick to his work to take a day off. Hopefully school would tire the kids out enough for them to sleep early tonight.
