Madeline looked up at the dive bar in front of her, guitar case in hand, and sighed. At this point in her life, she thought the big time would have been calling, but no. For the past four years, the musician had been trying to get her musical abilities noticed but to no avail. When she was busking, people would walk right past her as if she was invisible. When she was playing cafes, people thought her music was the radio and would ask for it to be turned down. When she turned 21, Maddie decided to move to the bar she still plays at and it’s still not where she wants to be, but it’s better. The alcohol makes people more engaging which makes her feel a little bit appreciated. Plus, it paid well, which she really needed. It was her only source of income.
There was one more perk to the gig. You see, every night both before and after her performances, Madeline would stop off at the bar to fuel herself on alcohol. Her very first night, she saw her, the most beautiful bartender. There was some sort of pull the musician felt towards the other girl, and after a few months it was recognised as a major crush. Her name was Rosalie. She gave her the courage to sing every night and they would talk until closing. Sometimes Maddie would sing songs that were specifically for Rose, but she would never admit it. It was a little secret she shared with herself. Although the shy smiles and glances during those songs were probably a bit of a giveaway.
Madeline shook her head to snap herself out of her pink tinted daydreams about the bartender and pushed through the doors to the dimly lit club. It was pretty empty inside, the place had only opened an hour prior and it usually took a while for the regular crowd to pile in. The brunette felt a wide smile stretch across her face when she noticed her favourite person stood behind the bar. “Hey Rosie! Looking great as always.” Maddie grinned as she sat herself in front of Rosalie. “I’ll have my regular vodka and coke, pretty please.”
