No marriage was perfect. Amelia Gold had learned to accept that long ago, especially after the rocky hand they had been dealt. It wasn’t a surprise that the evening had ended in argument either. Most nights often did, and the fact that the pair of them slept in separate bedrooms of the oversized house wasn’t helping matters for their relationship.
So, she took a break. She needed to get away, but at least nightly walks helped calm her head. Soothed that troubled mind of hers back into something she could at least deal with and make it through another night. But something in the air was different tonight. Where she would usually walk down by the docks, she found the fact that it was much darker than usual a little…eerie.
So she stuck to the main street, hands tucked under her arms; almost on the defensive, where they usually hung loose by her sides. There was a dread that something, someone was following her, and it caused Amelia to keep looking over her shoulder.
Especially when she noticed the headlights rushing down the middle of the street. Rather late for anyone to be heading anywhere in a hurry; unless maybe you were the sheriff. And then instead of staying on its straight course it took a slight turn, in her direction. Amelia’s eyes widened in sheer horror as they kept barreling towards her, taking a quick turn and starting to run down the street. Only, with nowhere to go, she realized this was going to end bad.
Very bad.
She was sure her mouth opened in an attempt to scream as the world lit up around her, but no noise came out. Only that of a devastating crunch of metal and bone as collision finally hit. Everything hurt. More than hurt; she was quite sure there wasn’t an area on her body that was somehow affected.
The car backed up, engine revving, and Amelia was sure that the finalizing blow would be any second now. Why? Why would someone do this to her? She felt the tears seep out from her eyes, but there was still no sound. The world quiet behind her as eyes slipped closed and she allowed herself to think of her sweet lost little boy. If she was going to leave this place, she was going to be damn sure it was thinking of the last thing that would bring her happiness.

A: God. This was fucking messed up. She didn't like Chase. She barely put up with him. So why the hell was she so upset? Why the hell had her stomach knotted up the moment he'd said the word date? Why had her heart felt like it was in a vice? After texting Dom, she'd called her dad. He'd let her cry and yell nonsense insults about the girl she didn't even know until she felt slightly better. She'd then put the roast dinner in meal servings and froze it. There was no way a poor baby lamb was dying for no reason at her hands. Throwing it away had been an idle, petty threat. She'd thought about getting high, but then, that would just make her want to be curled up against his warm chest even more. She did not need to ache in her chest to get any larger, thank you very much. She wasn't sure what had lead her out the back, but there she was, laying on a blanket on their back porch. Only the light from the paper lanterns she had strung around her. She was trying to make out the stars, but Chicago was too bright. Not like the small town she and Dom grew up in.
