Paectes occulatrix (Eyed Paectes). This is a really cool species who's larvae feed on Poision Ivy. Despite actively collecting in areas with lots of the host plant for many years, this year I've seen more of this species than previous years combined! #paectes #paectesocculatrix #eyespaectes #moth #entomology #lepidoptera #insect

Ok, shame on me for conking out before I tallied the results of yesterday’s BotD Viewers’ Choice poll...especially because it meant I had to tally over 70 results! It was close, but in the end, you chose a “Fancy” moth over a “teeny” one or a “huge” one. So please enjoy this amazing-looking Eyes Paectes (Paectes oculatrix) that I found at one of my blacklights last week. It’s the first time I’ve ever recorded this species or even genus in my yard. As with other species in the Euteliidae, its host plant is poison ivy. Those eyespots are pretty darned cool, no?
