Very carefully, you step closer to the bell and take a closer look.

The bell is easily bigger than your head, and it is mostly free of rust. The wooden support system seems old, but not nearly as old as the bridgework itself. Based on craft, it was probably installed a few years ago at most.

The bell is very high quality, cast in a very detailed mold with tiny carvings all around the base. On the inner lip there is in fact, a ring of unrecognizable runes, each etched by hand and coated with a dark red lacquer. 

The bell is indeed a [Herald Bell] and it must have been placed here to keep something from leaving the castle.

Which in terms of comforting thoughts is what we call ‘not good’.

Cutting it down might end whatever protective magic it is casting, but then again, it might not. Maybe if you brought the bell with you it could offer you some safety.

You don’t know much about magic or magic bells, so you have no idea what to do with this bell. The runes might not even be a protective spell for all you know. You’ll have to make a decision about this before moving on...
