To vow kemmering, is to vow to having sex with a single person. In a way it seems loyal, it seems like commitment, but does that disregard love? To vow kemmering, seems more like lust than love. Kemmering is the Gethenians vision of marriage. Kemmering seems like the a standard that speaks only for the means of producing. However, what if one no longer wants to be with the person for sexual pleasure? That person no longer has a choice but to stay with them. For an outgoing androgynous society, the rules seem to be harsh.
