What's On My Banner?

I made this logo design on August 31, 2013 I was in 2nd grade of High School at that time. This logo over here was an assignment for our IT class. The task was this: "Imagine that you will have or establish a company of your own in the future. To run your business you will need a logo that will represent your company & products you are selling. Design a logo that you will use as an identity for your company that will give some hints to your potential customer on what products you are selling!" We were given 7 days to complete the task before we could submit it to our teacher. Within a week, this is what I made: my logo design & my very first digital art that I made using Microsoft Paint.
(ALT description: a logo design in which you will see a rose that has 2 green leaves on its left & right sides. The rose has 2 wings that is put diagonally and tilted. There are 2 ribbon tails painted in yellow underneath the rose. On the center of the rose you will see capitalized "G" that stands for my nick name, Gabby. Behind the flower there are some paint splatters put randomly around the logo.)
As I said before, I used Microsoft Paint to design and draw this logo. This logo has three elements: roses, ribbons, and paint splatters. So why did I include those three in my design?
Ribbons. I see ribbons used quite a lot in Lolita fashion and clothing style. I really love this kind of outfit and I see that ribbon doesn't always function as accents or accessories in this fashion style alone. It could be regarded as special items as well, depends on how you see it. You can see it used as a chocker around your neck or a top knot on your hat. In classic and vintage images, ribbons are found easily in posters, decorations, attire, and logo or even simple drawings. So I guess ribbon is an artsy item that could be used for basically any purpose in the old times! I like that idea, so I include ribbons in my design underneath my rose. I initially wanted to type down my name over there, e.g. "Gabriela Kristiani Sudianto, or Art Made By Gabriela K.S." But since this logo was supposed to be an assignment for my IT class and I was literally running out of time back then (talking about deadlines here! Ouch...) so I have to leave those gold ribbons bare without any letters or words on it and submit it to my IT class teacher right away! Hahaha...🤣🤣 hasty works will turn out as something far or less from our expectations.
The paint splatters around my rose are quite symbolic, it means that I really wanna work with color and paints and become an illustrator or a comic artist in the future. So those paint splatters really carry some messages that say "I wanna be an Illustrator, I wanna be an Artist and produce art works," The last element over here is rose. I personally think that rose is a beautiful flower and it is somehow romantic. I can proudly say that I am a romantic person if you could get the chance to get to know me better irl! 😉 hahaha~ and I guess being (and wanting to be!) a romantic person and rose as a flower have somewhat a connection, so I just use it, lol! Another reason why I use rose is that it holds a special & deeper meaning for myself personally, it is a dashing flower that everyone would easily admire but it requires some efforts to get it because it has thorns as its defense mechanism. If you are not careful enough you will bleed yourself when you try to get one for yourself. I guess as a person I wanna be like a rose, it doesn't necessarily mean that I wanna "play hard to get" but I just wanna be a classy lady with values and virtues.
I forgot to tell you that in the center of the rose you will see capitalized letter "G" over there and it stands for my nickname: Gabby 🤓
Yeah, so those are the meanings behind my logo design. It could tell you who I am and what I am aspiring to be. Hello, world! My name is Gabby and I am an Illustrator and aspiring comic artist! Nice to meet you, I am looking forward for a chance where we could work together! 🥳🤗 yaayyy~ \(^w^)/ I really hope that I could create more digital artworks in the future~
These parts bellow are the step-by-step process of creating my logo design 👇🏾
STEP 1: Draw the outlines.
STEP 2: Paint the background in black.
STEP 3: Add some base colors. Over here I have started shadding the leaves using spray paint brush in Microsoft Paint.
STEP 4: Add another layer for the rose for shading.
STEP 6: Start painting the rose using spray paint brush, calligraphy brush, paint brush & crayon brush on Microsoft Paint. I paint the logo by using gradient that starts from the lightest hue and move on to the darker hues. Since I am using a mouse and not graphic drawing pen & tablet it is super hard and very tricky for me to color the edges & small parts. If you pay attention on the left wing, I made some mistakes over there by accidentaly spraying magenta hue on it. As for the background, I added extra paint splatters but this time they are just outlines with no color in it.
STEP 7: Add some shading on the ribbons. I made sure to color it based on where the dark and light parts are. The ones needing shadows will be given the darkest hue of orange & red. I used spray paint brush (again) to color the ribbons. As for the wings, I just add some hatchings & cross hatchings using white hue done with calligraphy brush. I was quite lazy to add shaddings on the wings. My hand were already tired and felt like a noodle and I just wanna finish this assignment ASAP. As for highlighting, I add some white strokes using flat brush on the outer part of the rose petals.
Alright. That is more than enough talking (I mean, typing) from me. Being a keyboard warrior sure is exhausting, especially when you are using your mobile phone instead of your laptop/PC! I will exit myself now.
Cheers,
Gabby
