How do I explain to people that when I vent, it's a cry for help. Instead of coming at me and calling me "negative" all the time, maybe come up with ideas to help if you see that the person posting is struggling. This has nothing to do with Tumblr, I haven't been here regularly in months. I just needed to vent about some things going on with fellow vendors in a Facebook group I run for the store I have my candle shop in.
So over a week ago I made the mistake of sharing a one star review for our store on Google. I happened to agree with the review which basically stated that Painted Tree is a great concept and comes off as a place where handmade vendors can set up their own shop and live their dream of owning a store. The problem is, handmade vendors get run out by wholesalers and other types of vendors.
I'm not blaming the non handmade vendors, but that's the reality, and it does make me and other handmade vendors who tried to "live our dream" (which is their laughable tagline for recruiting vendors) frustrated because customers buy the cheaper wholesale items and not the ones crafters spent a lot of love and care making.
I suppose I worded it poorly when I said I agreed with the review because all the non handmade vendors came at me with metaphorical pitchforks. I tried explaining myself, but it didn't seem to help much. I dug my own grave. I honestly feel really bad I offended people, that wasn't my intention at all. My intention was to bring awareness to the fact that 90% of the handmade vendors that started at the store are gone now and all that's left are people that already have their own brick and mortar store and don't need to be at PT to "live their dream" or people that sell wholesale items. It really seems to cheapen the place. It's just becoming another corporate run of the mill mall when it had the potential to be so much more: A collaboration of handmade crafters and other small businesses. It really is a shame that the handmade vendors have been forced to leave or change what they sell to survive.
But everyone that's doing well at the store missed the point completely and focused on the "negative" things I was saying. And then they have the nerve to say they're sick of the negativity, but like, the positive people and people doing well never fucking posted anything so of course the people struggling are the ones that look like they're complaining all the time and making everything negative. Like, sorry for trying to bring awareness to the problems with the store and give ideas to maybe help with that. I'm glad some people are doing well, but maybe they could help out those that are not instead of getting defensive and upset that I said it was sad that handmade vendors don't do as well.
