that didn't take as long as kankurō thought it would. yes, he was gone for almost a month and yes, there was not much communication between him and his siblings, village or friends and yes things were a bit messier than he would have liked. but the mission was done, his hands were clean and it was time to go back home. 

however, kankurō always liked to be on the safe side whenever he was returning home. going in and out of his disguise was more time consuming that he preferred and it was always risky business. what if someone was tailing him. he couldn’t lead them back to suna directly. so he always made a pitstop. stayed for a few days –– maybe a week, maybe more –– and then he headed back to suna as a civilian. 

this mission was no different. under the cover of night, kankurō ducked into suna, reminding himself to check in with the hokage in the morning about his need for extended stay. he jumped across buildings before diving between the walls of an apartment building. it was quiet but he knew someone wouldn’t mind waking up. his face was already clean so he just walked his way up to her door and knocked.

                        ❛       Hn - it  probably  won’t  survive  long  without  its  mother  . .   we  can  keep  it  for  now  if  you  wish ,  Hinata  .        ❜         It  wasn’t  the  first  time  he  mets  a      STRAY      ,  feral  cats  without  kin  .    Almost  too  similar  to  himself  he  muses      .    The  thrill  washes  away  the  indifference  plastered  on  his  face,  in  favor  of  a  small   grin  at  the  picture  of  the  lioness  holding  something  so  delicate  as  herself  (   She  wasn’t  bred  calloused  ,  too  kind  for  the  world  ) . 

                             it’s  one  of those  rare  instances  where  instead  of  having   FURY     come to surface,      it’s  other  suppressed  emotions  coming  to  light  because  she  is  here  .   Fingers  find  themselves  resting  on  the  feline’s  head  ,  brushing  gently  as  he  could  with  hands  that  could  rip  hearts  out .   so  oft  did  it  follow the  hyuga’s  glances  of  tyrannical  sweetness.  It  probably  took  a  liking  to  her ,  no  doubt .

      ✖ II —  Today Itachi had decided to join some of the younger for a day out, it was something rare, but for once the elder Uchiha was letting go of his worries and enjoying himself, especially because Sasuke seemed to be too with the company of Sakura and Naruto by his side, of course, he was staying further away, watching form the sideline where he couldn’t disturb their peace. However, someone, had decided to keep him company, who was none other than Hinata, something Itachi didn’t mind at all as they sat on the fallen tree, watching the trio of slightly smiling people.

Suddenly hearing the statement, obsidian hues turned, hues which view was slightly blocked by midnight locks before unfamiliar digits went closer to guide the them away, an action that was so casual and so gentle that Itachi couldn’t process it for about five seconds, before he turned back to watch individuals before them.

                                               ❝    Thank you.   ❞

Something within the stoic male was thanking the female for more than the mere action though, that was left unsaid.
