AAR Recognizes CSX for Its Excellent Service for Automotive Clients

In June, the Association of American Railroads presented its industry award for the highest-quality automotive ramp service to CSX Corporation and its wholly owned subsidiary Total Service Distribution, Inc. The annual awards recognize both an origin and a destination facility. This year, the CSX facility in Palm Center, Florida, was recognized as the top destination for the unloading of light vehicles, while Strawberry Yard, a CSX facility in Louisville, Kentucky, was honored as the top origin for the staging and loading of finished vehicles.

For the third consecutive year, CSX was also named to the Hyundai GLOVIS President’s Club. A third-party company that offers logistics services, GLOVIS honors firms that have excellent customer service, as well as a strong track record of transit performance and damage-free handling. In addition, GLOVIS looks at railcar availability and the ability of a logistics provider to accommodate special requests. CSX remains the only railroad named to GLOVIS' elite service club.

Recently, CSX invested in new multilevel auto racks and locomotives that will continue to deliver this high level of service to the growing automotive market.

Call for Proposals: Transgender Military Initiative

The Palm Center is currently commissioning 11 studies to enhance the quality of information available for evaluating transgender service in the United States military. The studies seek to answer questions related to readiness, morale, welfare, personnel requirements and management. Deadline to apply, June 15, 2013.

Scope: The research should employ social science methodology. The final product should be a study of publishable quality by a peer-reviewed journal.

How to Apply: Applicants should send proposals to Indra Lusero via email at: [email protected]. Proposals should explain the research design and methodology, and include a timetable, institutional affiliation (if any), reference list and author CV.

Selection Criteria: Proposals will be evaluated based on the scope of the proposed research, quality of research design, the potential quality of the data, clarity of the author’s writing, and the author’s background and publication history. Interested authors are encouraged to review this Palm Center publication for an example of acceptable work.

Compensation: The Palm Center will pay between $10,000 and $15,000 for the completed study, depending on the author’s experience and scope of the proposal.
