1. If not for the Conclave, what would drive your character to join the Inquisition?
safety, most likely. there’s a lot of upheaval in thedas at the time of the inquisition, and pan is an apostate and an escaped slave. if anyone can ensure that he has some kind of safety net, it’s the inquisition. he’d also have come directly from kirkwall to ferelden, which means he’s very familiar with how quickly things can go south.
4. What would their romance route look like? Would they be romancable?
pan would be romanceable by male inquisitors. humans and qunari would have a much more difficult time gaining his approval. generally, it would be a slow-burn romance focused on mutual trust. the culmination of his romance probably wouldn’t come until after the arbor wilds, especially for humans or qunaris. by trespasser, the inquisitor still wouldn’t be married to pan, but he would be very obviously more comfortable + very much in love.
i think enough time has passed that i don’t necessarily need to warn y’all that this has dai spoilers. sheet by @dextronoms!

The Fade
How they react: [quickened breathing, silence]
Their Tombstone: LOSS OF CONTROL
What the Fears look like: Some of them are twisted, misshapen Terrors. Some of them are shadows in the shape of the Tevene master he fled.
What the Nightmare says: "Panoën Aenorean. So little to say about you. A slave who thinks he’s Dalish. A mage who knows he’s a monster.”
Their reflection about the Fade: He passionately hates it - but at least it’s where he realizes he has a knack for knight-enchanting and fade work.
Hawke or Warden: He has no particular preference, but will slightly disapprove of leaving either.
The Wardens
Their feelings: Pan has never had any strong feelings about the Wardens. He grew up in Tevinter, where there’s no real culture tied to them. He doesn’t like fighting them, but they were doing blood magic - which means they need to die.
Exile or Allies?: Exile.
The Ball
How they feel: He hates it. Everyone calls him rabbit. Everyone thinks he’s a servant -- and that’s barely a step up above from the slave he was. He’s uncomfortable, and he’s stressed, and he’s nervous, and part of him is scared. He knows he shouldn’t be afraid, but fear isn’t rational.
Where they linger: Before the first bells, he’ll be in the garden. Afterwards, he’ll be in the library with Cole.
Are they good at the Game?: When he puts his mind to it, he’s perfectly capable -- but his nervousness keeps him from trying.
What people say about them: There’s very little said about him, but some Orlesians will comment on a fair-haired elf servant who keeps refusing to fetch drinks.
Gaspard, Briala, or Celene?: Briala.
Temple of Mythal
Rituals or Hole?: Rituals.
Agree with the Elves’ bargain?: Yes. Turning them down elicits strong, strong disapproval.
Morrigan or Inquisitor for the Well?: Inquisitor. However, a human inquisitor will also gain disapproval for drinking.
Comments on Canon Romance (little remarks on the inquisitor getting lucky)
Cassandra: “I heard about you and the Seeker. Are you -- she really likes you, huh?”
Dorian: [uncomfortable pause] “Just... don’t forget that Pavus is an altus, okay?”
Sera: “So, you and Sera? Can you -- can you ask her to stop putting lizards in my room? I don’t know if it’s a prank or a peace offering, but I can only split my dinner so many different ways.”
Iron Bull: He won’t comment on this.
Josephine: “I’m kind of impressed that she makes time for you, in between all that running everything.” [pause] “And, uh, I guess that you have time... too? Look, we all know she’s the one who does a little more.”
Cullen: “Be careful with him, okay? He looks like he’s on the edge.”
(i got another of these that i’m definitely not ignoring, but this one is easier so i’m gonna do this one first!
my inquisitor is panoën lavellan!
08. What is, perhaps, their biggest flaw? Are they aware of this or oblivious to it? i actually had a moment of oh damn when i saw this one because while pan certainly has flaws, nothing comes to mind as his biggest. (i asked @calenhads and she said “he’s a punk,” which, like, fair.) i thought about it a little more, though, and -- frankly, the biggest flaw would probably be his stubborn unwillingness to show any kind of weakness ever, and that is something he’s aware of. if he’s injured, he’s not going to tell the healer. if someone is pushing his boundaries or has said something hurtful, he’s not going to tell them. he gets over this to some extent by the end of trespasser, but it’s still a serious problem. it only leads to him getting hurt more, which is a very unhappy cycle for the Smallest, Unhappiest Elf.
19. Would your character be the kind to get into fights? (physical or verbal) Would they be a good fighter or cave in rather easily? at first, no. haven-era pan would NOT get into fights, and would very much avoid conflict as much as possible. by trespasser, however, he would probably throw down with anyone. what’s that, briala? you have something rude to say about slumming it with my people? put ur fuckin dukes up, we’re going he’s five feet tall and weighs a hundred pounds, though, so he’s definitely not going to win any fistfights (despite his KE spec making him a melee fighter). he has a slightly better chance in verbal fights, but he also usually ends up spluttering in tevene or elvhen, which Doesn’t Help Him unless he’s mad at dorian.
21. What is one of your character’s biggest fears? How would they react when dealing with this fear? loss of control, whether it’s over his magic or over his own life. the chance of it will upset him deeply, and he’s more likely than not to freeze or have a bit of a panic attack.
22. What kind of tattoos, piercings, birthmarks, freckles, and other such unique physical features do they have? despite being a lavellan, pan has no tattoos or vallaslin (because of the Slave Thing.) he does, however, have a smattering of freckles across his nose, a rather unique scar on his throat, and quite a few scars on his arms, back, and a few other areas, including a burn scar on his ribcage from That Time Dorian Had To Cauterize The Wound (And It Didn’t Really End Up Helping).
he also probably drunkenly gets his navel pierced at some point in-between the end of the basegame and trespasser, and it’s definitely because dorian egged him on.
"alone, finally" for panoën and "total control" for alina ;D
very subtle, you winky-faced white walker
alone, finally. [panoën lavellan]
It was near-midnight when Josephine finally pointed Panoën toward his tower bedroom, promising that there would be plenty of work in the morning and that they would clear the debris from the stairs before another scout fell down them. He knew it was dramatic -- he was well-acquainted with dramatics, thank you -- but he couldn’t help sagging against the door, covering his eyes with his palms.
In the morning, he was the Inquisitor and the Herald. In the morning, he was -- he was at war, against some kind of darkspawn beast and with a gang of people he wasn’t sure he could trust at his back.
For now, though, he could be alone, and perhaps he could remember how to breathe.
total control. [alina hawke]
Every time they make her put on the viscount’s crown, she imagines she can feel blood dripping down her forehead. It runs down her cheeks like tears, settles beneath her collar like sweat and salt, and yet when she tries to brush it away, there is nothing there.
It drips and it seeps and it stains, but Fenris swears to her that there is nothing there.
@delirioushawke asked “7, 11, and 14″ for the inquisitor meme!
7. What would be on their tombstone in the fade (what is their greatest fear)?
loss of control. it’s kind of two-fold - he’s a mage who greatly fears becoming an abomination or giving in to a demon’s deal, but he’s also terrified of losing his tenuous control over his own life again.
11. How would they grow as a person? How would they compare at the end of the Inquisition as a companion to who they were as the Inquisitor?
companion-pan would probably grow in a kind of softer way, i think? as inquisitor, he ends up Really Fucking Done, and he ends up forever tied to this inquisition & loses an arm. as a companion, he’d probably end up happier and gentler.
14. What nickname does Varric give them?
sparks! pan is a storm mage with a kind of shaky control over how often he zaps people. sorry, inquisitor.

Leave a “Unbind Me” in my ask, and I’ll write a drabble about one character freeing another, or the other way around, or something among the lines [be it freeing them from jail, from handcuffs, from a trap, from a curse, feel free to specify.]
The dark-haired human yanks his arms up by the cuffs’ chain; he nearly tumbles forward,, but manages to remain kneeling through what must be some kind of divine providence. Their kind of divine or his people’s, he’s not sure - he’s certainly never felt intervention from any god before.
She says nothing, so he speaks instead, hating the way his voice breaks, hating the way his accent curls around the words. (Not Dalish - not Tevene.)
“What did happen?” he asks. She pauses for half of a breath, then reaches out to grasp his forearm and tug him up, helping him stand. Again, he nearly stumbles - his head hurts, and the pounding beat against his skull is a distraction - but this time, she steadies him.
“It… it will be easier to show you,” she says, and there’s a kind of exhaustion in his voice that surprises him. Maybe it’s not truly exhaustion, though. Maybe it’s closer to resignation. He can certainly empathize with both, although he doesn’t want to empathize with another human who wrapped chains around his wrists. He nods, though, and glances at the door. Lead the way, he almost says, but the words die in his throat. They’re useless words, anyway. Of course she’ll lead. Who else would?
