Capaci bombing 1992-2021
Never forget, for any reason, and above all show that you deserve their sacrifice.
The magistrate Giovanni Falcone was killed by the mafia because he was guilty of having fought the mafia and above all he made people understand that one should not even think about living with the mafia, but rather that it must be fought hard and could be beaten.
Together with him, his wife and magistrate Francesca Morvillo and the escort agents Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo, Antonio Montinaro were killed. His driver, Angelo Corbo, and the other officers of the escort, Giuseppe Costanza, Paolo Capuzza and Gaspare Cervello, survived but are still victims of the Capaci massacre. Survivors were able to see with their own eyes the results of the fight against the mafia, of which Falcone remains a leading figure.
For them, the mafia blows up the Palermo-Capaci motorway with half a ton of TNT while the three armored Fiat Croma 2.0 Turbo ies, one brown, one white and one blue, are passing above, forming the judge's motorcade. Due to a slowdown, the brown Croma of the escort is fully hit by the explosion instead of the white one of the judge, which crashes together with the blue Croma on the wall of debris raised by the bang. The three occupants of the brown Croma die instantly. Falcone and his wife, respectively driving and in the passenger seat but without a seat belt, are transported to the hospital where they die the same evening, due to the serious injuries sustained. The other surviving men in the escort are seriously injured but still try to defend the judge and his wife, now dying, also providing them with first aid.
Since that day, unfortunately, the survivors of the massacre have been unjustly blamed and marginalized; considered uncomfortable because their intimate, personal and first-hand account of the story could not be exploited by all those who fight the mafia once a year, on institutional catwalks, and are not at all interested in defeating it as they all were the victims of the Capaci massacre.
