Natural Additive Chemicals
Starch and Dextrin: Both of these additives derive from the roots and cereals. The starch and dextrin's main ingredient is a polysaccharide, which upon hydrolysis produces a long chain of glucose. The main purpose of using these adhesives in the paper industry is to form corrugated paper, multiwall bags, and many others. Besides that, the dextrin is highly dry roasted starch used in the production of remoisten-able adhesives.
Gelatine: It is a protein obtained from the hydrolysis of the soya flour, collagen, or by separating the casein from the skimmed milk. Meanwhile, the animal glues like gelatine obtained from the bones are used in the textile and paper industry as the case maker and book-binding.
While the casein from the skimmed milk is used as adhesive to create the bond between wood and wood, other than this, soya bean gelatine or the glue is used in paperbacks.
Asphalt and Bitumen: Bitumen and Asphalt are the high fractions obtained from the crude oil used as sealers instead of adhesives or additives. But it helps build a bond between the coarse grade papers to build waterproof pieces.

Acrylics: Different compositions of the vinyl are used in the paper lamination, pressure-sensitive adhesive, for flooring, and also as flocking adhesives.
Vinyl: There are a varied range of products that are used in the paper industry. Numerous derivatives of vinyl are extensive, and all of them have some specific properties. Some derivatives are either as a solvent-soluble type while some as an emulsion. Polyvinyl acetate is used in paper converting, whereas polyvinyl alcohol is used in paper applications.
Semi-Synthetic Additive Chemicals
Cellulosic- Cellulosic is one of the structural elements obtained from the plants and a polymer made up of glycosidic rings joined with an oxygen ring.
Ethers and Esters: The esters can be informed to give either solvent-soluble or water-soluble polymers. Thus, it is also available in various forms like cellulose nitrate, mainly used as a clearing agent.
Cellulose Acetate Butyrate: This is the most advanced adhesive chemical used as paper to paper additive and plastic adhesive.
Methyl Cellulose: This helps prevent the paper's shrinkage during manufacturing and maintain its shape accurately.
Ethyl Cellulose: This is a low-temperature adhesive used in the paper manufacturing industry.
Today, manufacturing the paper without using waste paper is very unimaginable. Hence, the usage of additive chemicals is essential to improve the strength of various kinds of papers. These adhesives act as coating binders and help increase the strength of the paper without compromising the quality. Moreover, it is helpful in paper production and paper processing and acts as an ink binder too.
