Nightmares || Caleb & Hanna
Side Note: Her dream is in italics.
Hanna rarely had bad dreams, but the past few nights had been nothing but. The nightmares only seem to get worse with every passing night, leaving her lying awake for hours because she was terrified to fall back asleep into the same dream. Normally being in Caleb's arms was enough to comfort her, making sure never to wake him, because just watching his chest rise and fall as he slept helped her remember that the dreams weren't real, that he was still alive and breathing and nothing was going to happen to him. But tonight was different.
Hanna sat in her bed, trying to finish her homework as she waited for Caleb's text that he was outside so she could sneak him in, but the message never came. It was a quarter till nine, she still hadn't heard from him, and she began to worry. As soon as she reached over to call him, her phone vibrated to inform her that she had a new text. All of her worries disappeared as she saw who it was from - that was until she read it. It was a message from Caleb asking for her to come pick him up with an address attached to it. She quickly plugged it in on her phone and saw that it was about twenty minutes away, and sent him a text saying that she would be there soon. Not trying to worry about it too much, she got in her car and followed the route on her gps until she reached her destination - an old abandoned warehouse. She was hesitant to go inside, unsure as to why he was even out here in the first place, so she sent him a text telling him that she was there, but she never got a response.
After waiting almost ten minutes, she started to get worried, and she decided to finally go inside to look for him. Hanna shut her car off, and slowly got out, making her way over to the door that was already slightly open and called his name. With no answer back, she stepped inside the darkness, the only light that she had to go off of was from the moon shining through the broken windows. As she made her way around, she called his name twice more before she heard something fall from behind her. She quickly turned around to see a dark figure emerge from the shadows with Caleb in their grasp, a gun pointed to his head, and panic shot through her body as her blood turned cold. "Let him go!" She yelled as she made her way closer, but they immediately pointed the gun at her, silently warning her not to take another step. Her eyes hastily made their way to look at Caleb, his arms tied and his mouth covered with tape, but she could still hear him screaming for her to run. Then the figure placed the gun on the side of Caleb's head and her legs were trembling beneath her now, her mind racing a million miles per hour to try to think of a way she could save him. "Don't hurt him! What do you want from me? I'll do anything! Take me instead!" She screamed, her voice breaking as tears streamed down her face. This couldn't be happening, she couldn't lose the only person in the world that she loved. She looked back down to him, and she could see tears soaking his face as well. "Please, just kill me instead!" Her voice was strained through her sobs, pleading for them to listen to her. She watched as the gun faced her once again, meeting Caleb's eyes one last time and whispered "I love you.". He shook his head as he tried to escape their grasp, his screams muffled by the tape covering his mouth as he was about to watch the love of his life die in front of him. She then closed her eyes, waiting for the impact, but it never came.
The noise from the gunshot was enough to startle her awake, shooting straight up in her bed as tears raced down her face. Her heartbeat was out of control, and she felt as if she just ran a mile with how uneven her breathing was. She was crying hysterically now, unable to keep back all of the emotions from her dream because it felt all too real. Everything was numb, her body, her thoughts, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't get herself to say anything. All she could do was stare at the wall in front of her, trying to calm herself down, but she couldn't because the dream kept replaying over and over in her head to the point where she almost was second guessing whether or not it was real.
