things had been difference since their return from port townsend. in a short space of time they had been forced to experience things edwin had hoped to never feel again. the memories of hell still too close to the surface to be explored. his now known feelings for his best friend. nearly being split up before they were allowed to remain together. crystal has learned about her life and the lack of connection with her parents. niko...he couldn't bare to think of her yet. but the now never ending cases were a good distraction. that didn't mean he didn't notice when his best friend was lost in his thoughts. "charles, are you alright? you know you can talk to me about anything that is bothering you."

Every time he sees one of Claire's (excessive) homework sheets, Five always has the exact same, extremely uncharitable thought float through his head before he can stop it: This is what they're calling sixth-grade mathematics? Seriously? I was doing this shit in kindergarten. And then it always takes him another minute or two after that, to step back and remind himself that Claire is in public school, with a one-size-fits-all curriculum designed for the average twelve-year-old child who is not a natural-born prodigy, so he should probably keep a lid on that particular opinion if he doesn't want to hurt his niece's feelings. Allison has informed him multiple times now that his simple observations are "blunt" and "rude" and "a real asshole thing to say", and he doesn't ever want to accidentally upset Claire.

(Look, his siblings are fair game as far as he's concerned, but his preteen niece is an entirely different story.)

"Positive and negative numbers are really easy when you think about them, but sometimes, it helps to visualize them," Five tells Claire, picking up one of the discarded pencils off the table and drawing a straight slash of grey graphite on the blank page in her homework notebook. "With a line like this. See?" He quickly adds the numbers below the line, positives on one end and negatives on the other, with a zero in the middle. "It's infinite either way. It just keeps going in both directions, up or down."

atieno couldn't help but be endeared by the thought of yamato wanting to know so much about their stories. "well.. i had been around during a lot of really interesting civilizations off the planet. seeing so many empires come into fruition was absolutely fascinating to bear witness to. there was this one place the metaois realm that had to be a few galaxies away -- that was truly advanced in the way they dealt with nature and communication. i think there's still some remnants of it hanging around to this day. but that one was established... some centuries ago and it was truly wondrous to see the progress in how it changed and interacted with other systems. "I'm not bothered by it. If I was bothered by it I would be whining and crying, and I am NOT whining," he is whining, and he's been whining for the past few hours. Murdoc holds clear that years ago thinks like incredibly negative comments would have never bothered him and that he's simply gone incredibly soft, but he's always been this sensitive. He just used to bottle it up inside better than he does now.

The first release of the Stillwater Pizza Incident (a name he has refused to elaborate on) has been praised by the hardcore punk audience of today, however a lot of old hats, particularly those on a horrible site known as Pitchfork, haven't been as kind. He's probably taking this harder since this is his first solo project since starting Gorillaz.

"Washed up hip-hop faux rocker bassist trying too hard to emulate fellow poser Midnight with an industry plant-like attitude trying too hard to be noticed by Judas Priest...First of all it's not even the same fucking genre, third of all Rob Halford would be flattered if I wanted to suck his dick for fame," he's scrolling through the review on his phone, only getting more and more agitated by each word he reads. "I think these guys have never seen real punk a day in their life..."
