I was actually trying to do a compilation of all the scenes where Dedra says thank you and the one time she almost says it to Syril, and I could have sworn she says it to Heert, but she just says "good work". The only time she ever really says it is to Partagaz, twice. So I wonder if she believes that showing gratitude is only appropriate when dealing with superiors and that she doesn't need to say thank you for anything anyone does for her because it's just a performance of duty and the only thing that matters is whether someone does a good job or not. Nothing has ever been done for her out of kindness. Only in exceptional cases (e.g. when someone saves her life) does she think about saying thank you and even then she has a hard time with it. And I wonder if Syril is the only one who has ever thanked her, and if that's why she finds him so irritating. She has simply done her duty. She's not doing anyone any favors. And she certainly doesn't want to appear weak by showing kindness.
