I wrote something similar for WAG!Charles here, where Max first meets the Leclercs: meeting Pascale and Lorenoz, meeting Arthur

But for Innocent!Charles, I imagine things go slightly different:

Pascale hosts a dinner party so Max can meet the family (Lorenzo and Charlotte, as well as Arthur and Jade) and Max, for the first time in his life, actually feels a little...

Intimidated.

Because even though he is completely, madly, and ardently in love with Charles and wants to give him the world, he knows he's not the most...congenial person around. Especially for first time meetings. And truth be told, Max has never actually met any of his past boyfriends' or girlfriends' families. He never wanted to.

But with Charles and the Leclercs? God, Max wants to. He wants them to like him because he knows how deeply Charles cherishes his family. He wants to be able to spend Christmas and special holidays in Monaco with Charles, his maman, and both his brothers. He wants to be able to converse with Lorenzo and joke with Arthur. He wants to make Pascale smile and earn her trust (and later, her blessing) because Charles is it for him.

Despite all these good intentions, the first meeting is...

Not great.

Max is stiff and awkward around the Leclercs, too nervous to show his actual personality because he doesn't want to risk offending anyone. He tries to be as polite and quiet as possible, but this makes him come off as cold and arrogant. When he offers to help set the table, he accidentally comes off as condescending. When he tries to reassure Arthur that he'll be a shoe-in for F1 in the next few years, he sounds unintentionally dismissive.

It's a train wreck from start to finish and they both know it. But despite this, Charles still defends his boyfriend fiercely, refusing to allow his family to speak ill of him because, "You don't know him yet, maman," he argues, as his family sits there in silence (Max has gone to the bathroom), "he was so nervous the entire drive here that he spent most of it reciting all your likes and dislikes—"

"How does he even know that?" Arthur asks, sounding completely baffled.

"Because I told him. Over the course of several months. And Max remembered each and every comment." He emphasizes, desperate for everyone to understand. "Max is the sweetest, most thoughtful, and most loving Alpha in the world. Please, please don't judge him on tonight.

"But Charles...sweetheart," his mother interrupts gently, "you must understand our concerns, no? This entire time he was so...distant. Not just with us, but with you."

Charles blinks, completely stunned. "Why would you think that?"

"He sat across from you at the dinner table and when we had drinks and snacks in the living room, Max stood up the entire time. Then when we playing charades he didn't even want to be your partner." Lorenzo explains as neutrally as he can, but Charles sees the protective instincts in his big brother coming to the surface.

But instead of growing upset or defensive, Charles actually laughs.

A delightful, sweet giggle filling the room as he shakes his head, cheeks pink with happiness. "Oh Lolo, that's—well, I suppose from the outside it does look a bit strange." He concedes. "But the reason he sat across from me at the dinner table was because he wanted maman to be able to sit here," he gestures, "so I could tell her about how things were going at Alfa Romeo and how I might get promoted to Ferrari." He watches as realization dawns on his mother's face, easing the lines of tension that had been there all night. "And the reason Max stood up the entire time in the living room was because he didn't want to interrupt us as we were catching up. He took photos the entire time." Charles adds, smile growing wider as Lorenzo's eyes widen. "And he didn't partner with me in charades because he knows I always partner with Arthur—and he didn't want to break that tradition."

"Oh." Arthur's soft exclamation summarizes the gradual comprehension filling the dining room.

"Max kissed me in the hallway and while we were in the kitchen together. He held my hand the entire time we watched The Holiday and I know it hurt him to pull away each and every time. But he did it because he didn't want to come off as oppressive or suffocating." He remembers how his Alpha had gritted his teeth as he let go of Charles's hand and waist, how he had to keep his arms crossed or else he might just pull his Omega into his arms and never let go. "I know it looks...strange...because he's older than I am but I promise," he pleads, "there is no one who can love me better than Max. No one who looks out for me more, no one who can care and understand me like he does. I love him, maman, I love him with my whole heart and I hope that one day, maybe a few years from now, we'll be married."

"Oh chéri..." Charlotte's eyes brim with tears. "You adore him, don't you?"

"I do." He doesn't hesitate. "I love him more than I can possibly express. And I know he feels the same way."

"Because you know me better than anyone else in the world, schatje." Max interjects, startling everyone.

He stands there, in the darkened hallway, before walking closer, blue eyes shining with love for the little Omega sitting there in all his Christmas finery. "Charles has had my heart since the day he stepped foot in the paddock. I knew I loved him then. And to no one's surprise, I kept falling deeper in love, day by day, hour by hour, until I swore I could see the red thread that ties us together. Mijn hart," Max kneels down, taking both of Charles's small hands in his large one, "you're my forever."

And as the Leclercs watch this scene, their hearts soften. Because the man kneeling before Charles isn't the cold, haughty Alpha they initially thought he was. This wasn't the domineering older man they feared.

This was someone so completely devoted to their love that the rest of the world simply...disappeared when his Omega was in the room.

It's the kind of love that everyone dreams of—the kind of love Pascale had with Hervé, the kind of love Lorenzo has with Charlotte. The forever love that is strength and joy and trust.

And as Charles cups Max's face, bringing his Alpha in for a kiss, Pascale feels the weight upon her heart lift.

Because her baby is loved.

The way f1 influencers who act as journalists on the paddock always ask stupid questions to drivers that we already know the answer to. Just saw someone ask lando and oscar what inspired their clothes today. THEY WERE WEARING FULL MCLAREN TEAM KIT LIKE WHAT.

We know Charles would have become an architect if he wasn’t an f1 driver. We know max doesn’t like street circuits. What we don’t know is how many drivers get their hair cut by Pascale leclerc, and if they don’t speak French (I’m looking at you oscar), how do they communicate with her?? How do they set up an appointment? Do they call her or text her, does Charles set up the appointment for them? There are so many questions and zero answers. Get me to the paddock guys I would do some investigative journalism for you.
