Broadway around 18th St in Oakland, Ca
Francisco Diaz aka PASTEL from Buenos Aires has a solo show that opened last week at Athen B Gallery on Webster St in Oakland, Ca. Prior to the opening he painted this mural off Broadway around 18th St.
Earlier this year he painted an immense mural highly visible from the 880 freeway in San Leandro.
"I try to base my work on experiences. Considering the space where I get to create my work, it may be a city, a rural space, an open space or a closed space. First of all by trying to understand the conditions that the environment offers and not to impose an already established concept for the space. Working with flora as social symbolism, the pieces begin a dialogue about the nature of man and his surroundings. The existential, real, pure and tragic, almost forgotten in modern society."
