Night shifts in the emergency department are hectic most of the time but Steve loves his job as a nurse. Everything in his life seems to be in order, his Ma's Brownstone is fully restored and he's had Dodger for two years now. Sure he's single, but he can get by on his own just fine. Now if only Natasha would stop nagging Steve about his dating life. Not to mention she's been hooking him up with blind dates, time after time.

Then this insanely cute guy with luxuriant shoulder length brown hair and crystal clear blue eyes turns Steve's world upside down. It should be illegal for a patient to look that beautiful after coming off the anesthesia. The flirtatious space themed pick-up lines were enough alone.

Mercury in Retrograde by @metalbvcky​ features nurse!Steve and a Bucky Barnes who apparently can’t catch a break, considering how often he ends up in Steve’s emergency room. Steve also can’t seem to catch a break -- he’s got a hot guy as his patient (slight ethical dilemma there, Stevie), matchmaking friends, and a body that likes to betray him at the worst possible moments, refusing to listen when all he wants to do is ask out said hot patient. God, okay, let me gush a little about this: Bucky’s space-themed pick-up lines are so bad they’re good, and his infatuation with Steve and his cute patterned scrubs warmed my heart; plus, we have the tried and true trope of an adorable guy having absolutely zero filter while he’s coming off anesthesia and it’s just super cute. If you’re like me you’ll probably want to scream (lovingly) at Steve throughout this fic, because he’s Steve and he’s awkward and he makes questionable decisions regarding his love life (or lack thereof), but it’s all worth it in the end, as is always the case with my fic recs because frankly we all deserve these happy endings. Oh! Honorable mention goes to Clint for being a good bro to Bucky, if a little disastrous in true Clint Barton fashion; I always have a soft spot for him in fics, but I will say he had bad timing in this one lmao. I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone looking for some fun fluff, although Bucky gets, uh, pretty sick at one point? Like food poisoning kind of sick, so if you don’t have a strong stomach you might wanna skip over that bit. I think that’s it for warnings, though, so I’ll just end this by saying that metalbvcky’s other works are just as lovely at this one, and if you like Mercury in Retrograde I highly recommend checking out the rest of them!
