BLACK HISTORY FIRSTS - 2016 In the year of the “Oscars So White” hashtag, Broadway championed Diversity in an historic way. All four acting awards in Musicals went to brilliant performers of color. From multi-Tony-winner “Hamilton” Best Actor went to Leslie Odom, Jr and Best Featured Actress & Actor honors went to Renee Elise Goldsberry and Daveed Diggs. The Best Female Actress award went to Cynthia Erivo. As a Musical Theatre Playwrights who have made it a career goal to create great roles for actors of color, this was an incredible night for us. We were lucky to have had a reading of one of our shows at ASCAP on Bway for Stephen Schwartz in this historic season as well. To top it all off, my TuTchT illustration honoring this moment also became my most widely viewed work to date & allowed me some small interactions with these brilliant performers. @CynthiaErivo @LeslieOdomJr @ReneeEliseGoldsberry @DaveedDiggs @TheTonyAwards @TuTchTImaging @bwaycolorpurple @Hamiltonmusical #TuTchT #TuTchTIMAGING #ThruTuTchTEyes #BlackHistory #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackHistoryFirsts #TheLastShallbeFirstandtheFirstsShallbeLast #TonysHistory #CynthiaErivo #LeslieOdomJr #ReneeEliseGoldsberry #DaveedDiggs #TheColorPurple #Hamilton #BroadwaysGreatestActors #BroadwayBlack #DiversityMatters #TuTchTIMAGING #TuTchTBroadwayPortraits #PavingthePath #WallsBrokenDown #BarriersShattered #GreatFirsts #WhoGotNext
