Avior has a familiar that is a magic divining mirror called Pond. It is not its true name but it won’t allow him to know what that is. Since Avior is a social reject, he also takes this to mean that Pond wishes it would be owned by someone better. Pond has no reason to correct this, not necessarily because it’s true, but because Pond is a divination mirror and knows what is to come. And Pond knows it’s not to interfere. Avior needs to overcome his issues, but it cannot be with magical help. It should happen with his own strength, helped only by his mortal companions.
There are a lot of hopeful thieves of magical items around and Avior with his unruly divination mirror is probably a good target. After all, it takes but a bit of silver tongue to convince an item with a wrong owner to move on. But Pond won’t allow anyone to take it. Not because of what is but what will be.
