Pedal power lights up Tokyo Tower
In a wake of power shortage due to the nuclear plant accident, Tokyo Tower has been lit shorter hours at night. On the 23rd, an event was held to save power further by pedaling to generate electricity. 10 bicycles equipped with power generators were placed in the Tokyo Tower park, and 3,600 people including some pro sports players pedaled them in tern. They generated enough power to light up the tower for 20 minutes by a little after 8:00 p.m. Soon as 9 lights lit the tower in the night's sky, spectators gave a big cheer. A 25 y.o. professional cyclist who participated at the event said, "I'm always cycling, but this was very tiring. Nonetheless, it's a good idea to enjoy many ways to save power."
