“The sound of cleats on tiles...” by Joseph Baduria
Familiar faces all wished me luck as I continued to walk past with my cleats making that same noise when a person cracks their knuckles after writing a 3-hour exam. Or, the tight squeeze and twist of bubble wrap in the hands of an excited child. Or maybe even the popping sound of a heavy pick-up truck driving along gravel as the rocks shift, clicking and clacking against each other, beneath the rubber tires.
