hello my little onion! here's a little snippet of what older seri could look like, which is to say, she hasn't changed much at all! still the same ol' farmer of total insignificance and paltry alliums. (ignore that gojo there. he doesn't know what he's talking about.) i also drew a 2006 iza-seri doing the jjk tongue thing. enjoy 🩵 🧅

im probably just stupid but i never thought to consider that Akatonbo is limbo. it’s crazy to think, now that i do know, that i never caught on given all of the context clues throughout the story. everything makes so much sense and there are so many layers of the story that are unfolding in front of my eyes after that reveal (which i must say was done masterfully!)

i’ve been following sophie’s story for years now and it’s amazing to have another story written by you that is done just as wonderfully as mnp 🩵 i don’t know if you have ever answered this question before but do you have any tips for aspiring writers? or what does your process look like?

thanks for the generous praise and for enjoying my writing 🤍🤍🧅 i forgot where i heard it, but there's a quote that goes "a good book is a book that you have to read twice in order to read it once" (gosh i really want to remember where that's from, but my memory is blanking) - i hope peez can become a story where you can only get the full effect of it by reading it twice :-)

generally speaking i truly believe people who want to write better should read outside of their preferred genres. and write, of course. frequently and without self-consciousness. i don't really have a process, just a bunch of small lessons i've absorbed over the years that i browse through like a flea market and choose which ones to apply to myself on a particular day. at some point in the past few years, i was really affected by this zadie smith observation about young writers today

the first time i saw it, it knocked me flat on my heels. i could not stop thinking about it. there are other ways. it doesn't have to be this one way - clenched knuckles, bite lip until you bleed, self-harm as the obvious signal the character is experiencing distress - there's infinite ways, there's infinite signals, infinite images to invent. everything you write can be a way to verbalize something else. if that makes sense. and maybe you can toss all of it out the window and just write "it made this character upset." without hiding behind metaphor or analogy. there are so many possibilities

read your JJK/OC fic and OUGH THE TONE IS SO GOOD... i don't even particularly care about the cast (haven't even finished s1 of JJK) but the way you write is so appealing?? it reminds me a bit of Ghibli, but more- violent? if that makes sense

i GOTTA ask, is there anything that inspired this tone? it's so good i want to slurp it straight outta the words, extremely appealing and good for the brain. sorry if that makes no sense, i am just Really liking your funky words

ghibli is a big inspiration 🤍 also yasujiro ozu films, matias bergara, rako shirako, ran and the grey world & ultramarine schooldays by irie aki, anne carson, bassho, italo calvino, the j-indie band hitsujibungaku, various books like piranesi, a gentleman in moscow, i capture the castle, etc etc
