This is an ancient pill-millipede (Oniscomorpha) in my hand. It blows my mind that they are NOT closely related to roly-polies/pill bugs (crustaceans), a great example of convergent evolution. Apparently there are only a few entomologists studying millipedes at this current time (out of 7.6 billion people in the world!!). There is still so much to discover as there are no published studies on the life cycle either. Recently it has been reported however that some male species are known to seduce females into mating with ‘chirping’ vibrations called stridulation! I can confirm that there is at least one artist who is currently obsessing over their beautiful exoskeleton, curved tergites + adorable articulate antennae!!! I can’t contain my love! 💗💗💗 How cool would it be if I painted a HUGE portrait of one? 👍🏻?👎🏻? 🔬🔎💡👩🏻🎨 #pentazonia #pillmillipede ##oniscomorpha #Spaerotheriida #invertebrate #littlethings #tiffanybozic #inspiration #millipede (at Penang, Malaysia)
