Canon, Fanon, Fanfics, headcanon: A personal worry vent post...
So, with the drop of my Prisma God Mode thing (and the little details connected to it), I ended up a bit anxious and worried about perseptions of the info. Perceptions I know my friends and followers have already accounted for, and so me bringing it up just about every post and sharing of it (not just here but a couple of other places) I imagine comes across as a bit ‘overly defensive’.. and there is a bit of a reason for it.
I am a fanfic writer. Mind you, I’m not super prolific or anything, not only that but most of what I’ve written is half baked stuff in a mess of google docs at the moment. Still, that is one of the things I do. Thing is, I tend to write in the realm of things already completed. Ranma 1/2, Sailor Moon, Kamen Rider (DCD, W, OOO, Wizard, once trying to play with Drive).
But with Magic the Gathering, I see it as a ‘living lore’, that is a story that both has many endings and no ending at all. As such it’s hard for me to play with the lore in a fanfic respect wtihout either going full AU (I adore @bace-jeleren‘s Office au as well as the other ‘Modern’ talks of the cast and events) or getting worried that my thought process is either misunderstood canon or headcanoning.
I mean, obviously Prisma is a fan character (well, she began as something else, but still, I’m using her as such here), and same with her wife, and a few other of my characters I have come up with over time. But With the god thing, I also played with the nature of Lazotep, something that is likely just an ore found on Amonkhet with no other meaning or history, but my concept gave it a history that I didn’t want to be confused for coming up with actual canon explainations or something...
Like, especially when the fandom is going crazy right now with new set hype and discussing story stuffs.
Basically, I’m making this post not to explain that ‘No I don’t think Lazotep actually is this or that’ and more just to clear out my anxiety. It’s a silly thought and an unfounded fear and worry. I mean, like 90% (or more?) of the folks I chat with here are very smart, very creative, and very very savvy on what is fanfic, what is fanon, what is headcanon and what is canon. So my worries about trying to remind folks that I”m just coming up with some silly non-canon backstory for my specifically fan based character are totally unfounded and unnecessary.
So yeah... getting these thoughts out of my system and getting back to the fun that is fan walkers, speculations, and general enjoyment with the rest of my mtg fandom friends.
Feel free to totally ignore this post. It’s just a venting. X3
