I grumbled a lot today, but it wasn’t all bad.
I learned how to make a quiz in canvas, I got ahold of some really good resources and outline materials for all three classes I’ll be teaching, and the other Math 1 teachers are hooking me up with even more resources, sharing their pacing plans/etc.
And another math 2/3 teacher has already shared with me his pacing guides.
It just feels like I’m not getting anywhere because I can’t access the main websites/apps needed to get started setting up my classes or to get credit for being at work today/tomorrow/probably Friday, and I can’t get into my room and work on making it less blah when I’m having to do meetings at other schools.
Plus, the meetings largely cover resources I can’t access because I don’t have a school email and I apparently can’t access the school email on my computer because it’s not a school computer, and I can’t access it on the school computer because I’m not logged into the school network, and it’s just...frustrating.
This sort of thing--the technical set up--is always the worst part of long term subbing.
It looks like I’m going to have to find another teacher to put grades in for me, which means they have to have the classes under their names, which is a huge deal for them because that means if the kids don’t do well, it reflects negatively on them even though it’s not ACTUALLY their classes.
Like, I can do spreadsheets of grades and run a canvas class that’s not technically a school class if I absolutely have to, but I won’t be able to put the grades into the school system myself.
And the reason I can’t do that is because I’m not an actual teacher. But I still have to act as one, even if I can’t use all the materials a teacher should have.
The system is ass backwards sometimes, but I know everyone is trying their best to help me out, and I really do appreciate them so much.
I just feel like I’m falling behind. Once I finally get my email and access to resources, I think I’ll be a bit more enthusiastic again.
For now, it’s just....bleh.
