Born in Detroit, Bobby Hall was approached by Motown arranger Paul Riser while playing percutions at 11 in a club, becoming the youngest session musician in Motown history. She became a regular fixture in the Motown Mansion albeit was never acknowledged on any of the credits. In 1970, she moved to Los Angeles and changed her name to Bobbye to affirm her identity. As a young veterant, she added her bongo, congas or cuíca skills on on many notable albums of the period, apart from the Motown label. She backed Bill Withers on several albums, including "Lean On Me" & "Ain't No Sunshine", played with Marvin Gaye on "What's Going On", toured with Carole King & James Taylor, recorded with Bob Dylan and was the bongo in The Incredible Bango Band. The mid-1970s saw Bobbye Hall marry Joe Porter and record her first album on her name "Body Language For Lovers". The list of artists for whom Bobbye has performed is impressive : Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Pink Floyd, The Temptations, The Doors, Bob Seger, Donald Byrd, Tom Waits and many others.
This mix focuses on the soul jazz aspect of her contributions to the music changes of the 1970s, marking the period with her pulsations.
