4. Name three authors that were influential to your work and tell me why.

Shirley Barber. Sometimes I think I’m a woman who never grew out of her childhood interests and beliefs. I’ve always leaned more towards the mystical and supernatural for the same reason I was flicking through her books before I properly knew how to read.

I love fairies. I love myth and legend and folklore and magic. And I can never thank her enough for showing me that it exists.

Derek Landy. I’ve met him twice and the amount sheer confidence that man exudes, well, it taught me that I don’t have to be shy of my talent and I can be unafraid of my failures.

Also, Skulduggery Pleasant came into my life at a time when I needed to read about a girl my age who had muscles like me (from swimming like me) who could throw fireballs in people’s faces.

Sally Wainwright. I have never loved a writer more than her. Where Shirley Barber shaped my interests and Derek Landy shaped my person, Sally Wainwright shaped my writing.

Okay, so this is more to do with scripts than fic (but need I remind you, I also have a Happy Valley/Scott and Bailey/Musketeers AU going on in my brain), but her dialogue is so natural and she writes amazingly wonderful women and I aspire to write at her level.

7. Early influences on your writing.

All the books I read, my fascination with mythology and folklore, and my dystopia period.

12. Favourite place to write?

I’ll let you know when I find it.

26. Story you’re most proud of?

Script wise, my pilot episode of (Anti) Social because I poured so much of my own personal trauma into the show and the script. Also I got 99%.

Fic wise, The Other Side because ghosts and I wrote it purely for me and without expectation.

45. Share the synopsis of a story you work on that you haven’t published yet.

That’s like everything I’ve written over the last year and a half. Here are some current highlights for The Musketeers:

A Torchwood “Fragments” structured fic exploring how Treville, Aramis, Porthos and Athos came to be Musketeers.

A series of related one-shots centred around the idea that Aramis spent the war as a spy for France, not a monk. Currently includes a rewrite of 3.01 and Spy-amis’ involvement in Porthos’ capture rescue from the Spanish somewhere in Alsace.

A rewrite of episode 3.04 because I suddenly had an idea. Focuses more on Pauline and Aramis’ past while getting rid of a few characters and introducing another.

Happy Valley/Scott and Bailey/Musketeers AU where Constance and Sylvie are amazing detectives and I’ve honestly thought more about Anne’s story than I have what started the idea in the first place.

Oh and there’s a Dragon Age fic where Trevelyan and Dorian address the issue of Trevelyan siding with the Templars even knowing about the dangers the Mages were in and the potential psychological ramifications of having a face stealing Envy demon crawling around in one’s head.

(Speaking of, I had considered a Musketeers AU for that too.)

Oh and Trevelyan losing his arm.
