As usually happens when I've been into a fandom deep enough and long enough, I've been playing around with a Magnus Archives Dragonriders of Pern AU

Set just before the Fifth Pass, ~440 years into the First Long Interval

Gertrude, senior Weyrwoman of Fort, rider of gold Rath

Jon, rider of Arith, runt bronze, searched from the Harperhall

Martin, rider of green Kassith

Sasha, gold rider (dragon yet unnamed)

Tim, either bronze or blue (haven't decided yet) (dragon yet unnamed)

Melanie, blue rider (dragon yet unnamed)

Georgie doesn't have a dragon (she's not associated with the main crew)

Daisy and Basira I haven't thought about yet

Plot runs similarly to Dragonflight, with the characters dealing with the fact that Thread isn't gone despite the skipped Pass and the subsequent consequences for the Weyrs

So I wound up starting some ideas on a Pern!au barduil story. There’s more crap going on, of course. Can’t leave out the Trash Squad. ;P I do think I need someone to bounce ideas off of, though. If anyone is interested in talking about this au with me, please shot me an ask.

Someone really needs to write that barduil Pern!au. I need it. And no one steps up to do it, I’ll feel like I have to. And I’m not a good writer! You don’t want me to write it, you want someone good! Please, please someone do it.

Maiken has died.

It felt as though Rossiel’s blood had all gone colder than between.  A forging accident, nothing anyone could have done.  She curled into a little shuddering ball and wept; Bell beside her keened with the grief that flooded their emotional bond.

Say Something (Maiken, Pern)

She hadn't wanted to believe them when they told her that Maiken wasn't going to get better.  That the kindest thing that could be done would be to give her enough fellis to let the Smith slip away peacefully.  Rossiel hovered at her bedside now, Bell crooning mournfully on her shoulder, waiting for the Healers to return with the cup.

(grave meme) Maiken gazed at the headstone with dull pain crawling up her throat, and gulped. "I -" she began, and tried agan. "I don't know what to say. I didn't mean for this to happen. It was an accident. A horrible accident. If I'd known you were still sleeping, I wouldn't have... shards, Rossiel -" Her voice broke, and she sank to her knees. "I would have saved you. I don't care about the forge, I'd never have smithed again... if I could just have saved you." She broke down, sobbing weakly.
