So now that I actually time to think about it, i’m about to explore a little more in depth about Sanson’s phantasm because to most people it’s just a guillotine being hoisted out of nowhere from the ground.
However, the way I kind of envision it is that La Mort Espoir (as the name of his Phantasm) is manifested, it fades into existence through shadows from behind the intended target once Sanson engages. In fact, I’d like to also think that the cherubs (which are included in the final art of his) have a hand in it by creating the divine instrument where Sanson chooses at that very moment.
Of course it’s funny to think about how Sanson’s phantasm kind of has a reflection of heaven and hell in a way because of the whole ‘divinity’ with angelic wings included, but also the shadowed arms and hands of the damned that stretch and shoot out from the interior.
Those arms though will continue to follow, grasp, and PULL the target without letting up until they are subdued. All within happening within a couple of seconds, not a lot of servants and people are prepared for such a quick act.
Either way, I wish I could go into more detail by looking at more of the designs actually ON the guillotine itself when he summons it, but there isn’t much for me to pick out other than the wings of angels on either side of it, the hounds atop the guillotine’s top, and the bell that rests in the middle of the top of it.
The hounds and bell of course resemble the Sanson family crest.
Not entirely sure what they represent although I’d imagine hounds have something to do with ‘loyalty’ in their duty, which is what Sanson does as a servant.
