Just saw Karate Kid: Legends and I’m just gonna say it, it’s fight scenes were infinitely better than Cobra Kai’s. Cobra Kai overused slow motion in the fight scenes a lot and showed the same move from several different angles, it made it feel boring to me and not as fast paced as a fight should feel. Karate Kid Legends fights all felt quick and only used slow motion like once or twice, and they didn’t repeat it from a dozen different angles, so I was actually invested.
Also Li Fong is an amazing protagonist, he loves his family (especially his mom and brother), is kind, isn’t toxic and is just a good guy. There’s no toxic masculinity to him or any other characters in the movie. Even Connor Day, the freaking antagonist of the film, isn’t an overly cringy misogynistic villain, sure he’s a jerk and is possessive of his ex-girlfriend, but he’s not an evil villain. He leaves Mia alone and bows to Li at the end of the film to show his respect to him, it’s honestly just such a breath of fresh air of six season of whatever the hell cobra Kai was. All that to say, I highly recommend the movie, the cast is great, the story is great (although I would’ve liked the movie to be longer), the fights are great, it’s a film that really honors the karate kid movies and doesn’t disrespect them.
I wasn't interested in seeing it, my sister was the one who really wanted to watch it and wanted to bring me along.
Like my interest in the film, there wasnt much to expect. Personally, it kinda felt like Jett was the actual protagonist of the movie and Will was only the NPC but the film happened to be filmed in his perspective.
"GOAT" shouldve been about Jett, it wouldve made the film more interesting!
some different things I learnt from the original script of the Dead Poets Society by Tom Schulman for the first time
*These are my personal review and thoughts about it*
Mr. Keating is so Brat coded
Todd is sassier? Angrier? Idk he definitely isn't that awkward as he's shown in the movie just really sad or frustrated most of the time (relatable boi-)
The boys swear. Like, a lot. Especially Neil. Sad most of the swearings were cut off in the movie :(
There are more poetry mentioned, really nice.
Keating is Todd's personal bully. As an introverted person myself I would have hated Keating irl not gonna lie, but he's a nice person and he has his reasons so I forgive him.
Neil is so dramatic. Also very Impulsive. And also very Hotheaded.
Knox is so fucking creepy I can't even-
McAllister definitely has homoerotic desires for Keating and I stand by my word
Meeks is definitely gay- or Aro. He's cute.
The metaphors for sex and orgasms are crazy
Neil is a supportive bf
More mentions of Todd's parents, and how Todd is very aggressive about that topic
Charlie is a goddamn menace, but dorkier than the movie
Surprisingly, I hate Cameron even more now.
Charlie treats Cameron worse than the movies, though Cameron snaps back at him more in the scripts
Pitts being a Neutral Chaotic is interesting
Pitts and Charlie's chemistry is cuter than I thought
Mr. Perry and Nolan can rot and die
Todd doesn't sign the papers to fire Keating (not really mentioned in the movies if he did or not, though.)
Well this are the things I noticed that are a little different from the movie and the script, I did read them partly before but I finally finished them today and I'll just.. Cry on the floor... Like Todd..
Though I loved most of it, I liked how the movie explained some parts a little more detailed, just wished some scenes made it in the movies too.. And the boys feel a little more alive- Like real guys around their age, puberty and creepy has a thin line between them
But seriously, I thought movie Knox was a creepy lil boy, but the original Knox gives me a little hard time to love him.
I seldom watch movies unless I’m really curious about them or I’m a big fan of the actors. In this case, it was the latter. While I’ve always liked Ha Ji Won, I hadn’t seen any of her work besides Secret Garden.
Aside from that, I really enjoy older or should I say classic Korean movies. I was surprised to find out that this one was based on a true story. And the setting! I mean, can you believe it was the first time North and South Korea played as a unified team?
Don’t even get me started on the chemistry between the main leads. I’m not usually into sports besides volleyball, but this movie actually inspired me to learn table tennis. Overall, the film was perfect and moved me in a profound way!
synopsis: a young man devoted to protecting his loved ones must face off against corruption and sinister characters in a postwar backwoods town.
themes: good vs. evil, religion and hypocrisy, violence and death, trauma and psychological damage, corruption and moral decay, fate and desperation, poverty and despair, family and protection
fav quotes:
“Some people were born just so they could be buried.”
“It's hard to live a good life...It seems like the Devil don't ever let up.”
“They's a lot of no-good sonofabitches out there."
“Sometimes it seemed as if she spent half of her life crying.”
“He wondered if he would ever feel clean again.”
“Let me pray first," he sobbed. He started to put his hands together. "I already did it for you," Arvin said. "Put in one of them special requests you fuckers are always talking about, asked Him to send you straight to hell.”
my thoughts/review:
i love this book so much that i couldn’t put it down. donald ray pollock's the devil all the time is a harrowing southern gothic-like novel that borders on straight-up horror, taking the cake for disturbing and depraved. set in the post-world war ii backwoods of ohio and west virginia, it paints a bleak, grotesque picture of humanity, filled with violence, madness, and desperation (my kinda book hehe).
my favourite character is arvin, a deeply morally grey individual whose struggle to navigate a violent world while holding onto a sense of justice kept me hooked. his internal conflict and actions are unsettling yet sympathetic. another favourite perspective of mine was lenora, whose innocence and tragic vulnerability added a heartbreaking depth to the novel. sandy's perspective was equally fascinating—her entanglement with her husband in their twisted, murderous routine gave the story a layer of depravity that was chilling.
the story takes readers through the eyes of some truly gnarly and grotesque individuals, from a husband-and-wife serial killer duo to a predatory preacher and travelling freak show. the imagery is immersive and grotesque.
pollock’s prose is both beautiful and disgustingly twisted. he uses rich descriptions to create scenes that make you squirm but also pull you deeper into the narrative. if you loved the movie or like weird books i can't recommend enough.
Honestly, I feel this is a better game for me than Pokémon Legends Arceus was.
Similar to Legends Arceus, it encourages to catch all of Pokémon and do all kind of tasks and certain tasks that requires different Pokémon. But what I appreciate is that it has more focus on battling than Arceus did due to the Z-A Royale, and I have more chances to train my Pokemon and level up my team so I don't feel too under leveled when battling others. And while I'm upset Pokémon abilities are not here, I do like the battle style of the game, making it feel a bit real and allowing me to not have to wait for my turn, I can use different moves quicker and I can move my Pokémon to possibly dodge the opponent. And I feel like I have a better chance to really focus on a team to battle with.
And I love the new mega evolutions! I love it brought back the mechanic, and I love how it added new ones. And being able to battle rogue mega evolution Pokémon is intense in the best way, encouraging me to be smart about how I battle them and I love being able to mega evolve more often than in the previous games, giving me more chances to enjoy the tactic. I'm still not entirely fond of the starters of the game, but I've developed a new appreciation for the Tepig line, especially with the Mega Emboar. Mega Meganium is a great design and I love it gains the Fairy-Typing, but I am not fond of Mega Feraligatr. (I've never really been a fan of the Johto starters.)
I also enjoy the storyline and I love how it connects to AZ and his underdeveloped story from X and Y. I feel like it adds more to the story and the game mentions what happened to to Team Flare after it's defeat in the first games. I also really like the characters in the game, AZ is great, Team MZ is awesome, each member has something that makes me love them, and while I am disappointed at the Rust Syndicate, Team Flare Nouveau, and even Mable, since the game lacks a real villain team, but given the game is about AZ's past and putting his biggest mistake to bed, it makes sense there's no villain team.
I also love the character customization! So many different clothes, the way we can add a second color to our hair, the hair styles! Kalos once again proves to be the most fashionable region in the world of Pokémon.
I still need to play the Mega Dimension DLC, but when I do, I'll be sure to make a review about that as well. But overall, the game is great and I
Do you ever have that one snack that is meh to others and it is to you at first but you sort of...just coming back to it? Like it's definitely not going to be in your list of top 10, it's not a work that is revolutionary or changing the landmarks in anyway, it's not bad but it's not good either but once in a while or maybe sometimes you just chew on it? It's my feelings with this manhwa.
It's an otome isekai BL that is quite cliché and whatever might be exciting or new is brushed under the carpet and never brought up again. The ending is rushed and the character arcs are underdeveloped. The artstyle is ok but it depends on your preference.
Still, this is not to bash the work. Because I like it. Like it enough to read it repeatedly by the way.
I like our MC, Jerry and the ML, Ilya. I think they are cute and so is their relationship. I honestly don't mind if this work is a fluffy slice of life romance story. In fact, I think it could have worked better that way.
I understand most disappointment in the reviews because initially the story gave us crumbs and hints of something deeper, whether it was political (the discrimination around status, the revolt, the fighting between royalty and nobles, etc.), the matter with the system (like why was it there, what is its purpose, how can Ilya sense its 'mana', is it a higher sort of existence, etc.) or personal growth (Jerry's feelings towards Ilya and the world he once considered a video game, his realization that everyone is real and living being, etc.)
I think in another writer's hand, it has potential to be 100+ chaps that can explore those points I mentioned above. Unfortunately it is what it currently is.
But yeah, if you don't mind a story to pass the time and which you don't have to use your brain much then I recommend this one.
Let's be honest with ourselves that Transformers Earthspark has its issues. It isn't uncommon for the series to have a few messy iterations throughout the years. However those at least have something going for them.
Bayverse is a junk pile yet there's a lot of material you can build off on and some pretty interesting concepts. RiD15 is an awful sequel to Prime but does decently well as a standalone although there are much needed changes to be had. Earthspark... Well, it's just there.
I can be lenient with the plot holes and poor pacing as Nickelodeon is notorious for interfering with any show that isn't SpongeBob to the point of cancellation. The issues truly land on the characters themselves. I'm gonna try to simplify it without devolving into a rant like the previous draft.
Edit: Gonna add some further edits as I wrote this in the middle of the night. Plus my simplified version skipped some key details.
Robby. Somehow they made a human character I actually dislike instead of be neutral about. In the official Transformers wiki, he's labeled as a big brother who cares for his siblings but his actions so far say otherwise. Robby literally ran away in the first episode because they moved then decided to try and hide the Terrans from his parents.
Yet he rarely gets enough consequences for his actions. I think we don't just need less Emberstone saves not just because of plot armor but force actual character growth on him. Like a life changing to one of his siblings as consequences for his actions and strained relationship until he gets his head outta his ass.
Edit: Yes, I know Robby is a teenager but that isn't a decent enough excuse for his behavior. Seen the trope about big brothers who do act closed off or at some points rude but they haven't done shit that put their family in serious danger. No, I didn't try to purposely forget the times he was injured badly.
There honestly needs to be less of those and his consequences be adjusted to it affects someone else badly. *
Next issue is lacking confrontation with Optimus choices alongside the obvious misplaced trust in the 13 Primes. Quintus Prime literally emotionally manipulated and scarred Mo through a fake bad ending reality because she doubted herself. No good person would do that, much less an actual ally. Even moreso on a child.
I seen this shit in Trollhunters but at least Jim, the main character, was a teenager. (It still was wrong though.) We also got remember that Liege Maximo and Megatronus/The Fallen are Primes. Yet somehow it is best to trust them.
Don't get me started with some of Optimus' choices when it comes to GHOST. He probably did it to protect his Autobots but what about the Decepticons who are locked away? Why are there so little of his companions with him especially since Bumblebee had fucking went into hiding before the show began.
There needs to be tension between Optimus with his Autobots. Someone is bound to snap and Bumblebee would have the biggest impact. The man clearly isn't okay as he's doing things that even Megatron admits ain't like him.
Mandroid needs to be written differently. He has the making of a sympathetic villain but oh boy. First off it is clear that his depiction is ableist aligned since the reason he doesn't like Cybertronians is because he lost his arm. Major thing to change right there.
Give him a narrative where his interest been genuine but slowly declines as the Autobot/Decepticon war increases the number of destroyed lives. Let him become a victim to this than just 'I lost my arm so death alongside experimentation to all Cybertronians'. Also don't make Mandroid ignore the obvious fact that the Transformers parts he puts into his body is slowly poisoning and instead come up with ways to fight the infection. Kinda like in Ironman 2 where Tony's arc reactor began to do the same thing.
Edit: Mandroid's negative views on Cybertronians are about the war and he's aware of the Energon poisoning. It is just that it is poorly portrayed to the point you rarely see it over his Arachnamechs/his ruined life.
Have the man present various evidence of destruction the war caused by both sides at the Malto children or anonymously spread such info around town to sew discontent with the townsfolk. 'These are the people who you consider heroes. Who you see as family and friends. Or should these tragedies be forgotten?'
Do a Baxter Stockman where you frequently see him try to fix the Energon poisoning than just simple dialogue. Even have testing on organic subjects to see how they react and find ways to counter it. Don't keep these key points as simple dialogue. *
I don't think Karen needs much changes either. 'But her taking over Cybertron doesn't make sense!' It actually does for one reason: hubris. Have you ever seen what happens when you give a control freak power? Their behavior becomes more erratic as they begin to think they deserve more. She is xenophobic in nature so imprisoning Decepticons and ordering around the Autobots is a drug to her.
Karen wants to treat them like slaves so the next step in her mind is Cybertron. Her death is well deserved and well played. Just like Icarus, the bitch flew too close to the sun.
I think the last major issue, other than out of character racist Shockwave, is the Terrans. No offense but they need a bit less screentime so the rest of the cast can shine. We barely see Alex and there's unclarified issues involving Bumblebee with Arcee if he's uncomfortable around her.
I also want their flaws to be at the forefront. Thrash is the only one who gotten such character development from his encounter with Swindle. We need more of that! Like Hashtag's overreliance on the Internet biting her back as she is forced to use real world skills.
Edit: I accidentally put in Terrans when I really meant Twitch. The screentime for everyone needs to be balanced mainly for the Malto family. Alex alongside the three younger Terrans rarely get involved or their characters further build upon. Twitch needs to get benched more.
Also the Dad Number 2 should really be addressed. Wheeljack was clearly uncomfortable when it been brought up. Plus it is way too fast to even consider such ideas unless you plan to have it addressed properly. Like 'Kid. We barely know each other yet somehow I became a father figure in an instant? It's best not to do that until you truly certain "Dad Number 2" doesn't mean harm or feels comfortable with it.' *
Earthspark clearly has potential but these problems need to be handled better. Addong the deleted scenes help add some clarification but canon needs to present it. We are supposed to get a second season so hopefully some of these are addressed.
