I just spent the better part of two hours putting together this personal space consent checklist for my upcoming convention group. The concern of crossing personal boundaries was brought up since a good portion of our group had never met in person, and rather than putting anyone on the spot I decided we could fill out checklists as a group activity. The only problem was I couldn’t find a decent checklist online already that suited my needs.
So I present to you the Personal Space Checklist! While the wording and instructions on the checklist are more geared towards group settings, it’s a great resource even between individuals. Whether you have sensory issues that make certain physical interactions uncomfortable or just like to have your personal space respected, I tried to include as many interactions as possible on the list. Feel free to use the checklist as it is, or as a jumping off point for discussion of boundaries between you and any partners/groups you might be part of.
Please note, physical interactions that could be sexually intimate in nature (things involving the breasts/butt/etc) were not included on this list. It is my belief that you should always seek consent for any actions involving the more intimate parts of someone’s body.
