It feels great to be a Gambino again. Even though I never really stopped. Long story short, when I was five, we lived in North Dakota for a year to be close to a site Dad ran. Since he was one of the main petroleum engineers on the program, a lot of local environmentalist groups protested in front of our house and made threats and stuff, and since my first day of school was approaching and the matter had gotten to be a pretty big deal in the community, my parents decided to have my last name legally changed to my middle name (which, Milner, is what my grandfather changed his first name to after immigrating) so that Kindergarten wouldn't be about parents finding out the Gambino kid was in their child's class and how my Dad was ruining their nature and stuff.
But today, after all the paperwork has been processed, I'm officially a hyphenated last name person! Milner-Gambino has a nice ring too it, I guess. Even though around here, I'll still usually be Lindsey Milner (all my friends knew it wasn't my real last name though), it just feels right to legally have my true identity back and not changed.
*Also, I am in no way connected to the Gambino crime family. Maybe the roots are the same back in Sicily, but no.
