ooc: god are we talking about car things bc I don't know a thing about car things but the answer is probably bc the writer's didn't think of that. Or Doc didn't. When he made modifications to the car he wasn't really considering things that would make the car better-- more the time machine parts. Mr. Fusion and the hover conversion made it easier to get up to 88 and power the flux capacitor. Other modifications may have come in time but who really knows.
