We are back again with another album review! Phil Phlaymz impressed me with his album. “Quit My Day Job.” With the opening song being entitled, “TREES,” I figured it was going to be some typical stoner rap. He totally proved me wrong.
“TREES” may revolve around smoking, but Phlaymz’s bumpy flow gets you jamming. There’s a super funky synthesizer and bass line that really brings this song together furthermore. Immediately QMDJ follows with another feel good song, “FRESH,” which keeps the mellow with a sweet Kush & OJ styled beat.
Last Day featuring Toni B. Simone really transitions the album well with her soothing vocals and more instrumentation in the song. It starts as a new wave styled bouncy song and ends with Toni singing and an outro from Phlaymz talking about when he actually quit his day job. High Hopes has three artists on it and is boasts anthem qualities. This is where I hear the classic rock influence in the album start.
Quit My Day Job continues with OMW, a short little skit for the hip-hop heads out there. Immediately the reggae influence comes in with, “Lighters” and I love every bit of this song especially Redddaz powerful voice with Phlaymz coming with another bouncy, fun flow the entire song. The next couple tracks bring the album along well with more catchy hooks and jams.
I need to talk about the self titled jam QMDJ Feat. Naiika Sings. It’s no surprise this song sounds like something 50 Cent might cook up. The pairs vocals mesh so well on this track down to all the ad-libs. There is absolutely no reason you should have trouble getting to track nine and its a definite treat to be found second to last on the tape. The last track, “Life Shit…” is some raw rap over a funky bass and drum kit. This is some great New York Hip-Hop and I would recommend purchasing as its available on iTunes!
